    S&W 22S-1 Manufacture Date

I recently got my hands on a S&W 22S-1. The 22S is basically the same as the 22A except it has a steel frame instead of aluminium. There were 3 variants made. Variant 1, which mine is, was manufactured from 1997 to 2007. I have searched looking for a way to determine the manufacture date based...

The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

I own a model 28 I bought new in 1986. For some reason I always thought it was a 28-3 however more investigation shows that it is 28-2 manufactured between 78-80. The serial # is N955xxx . Must have been sitting in the shop for a while before I bought it. To further mess me up when I was...

    Dad's Smith & Wesson revolvers.

Very nice. I'm envious. Treasure them always. When my Dad passed I got all of his guns. The one I treasure the most is Model 10-8. Except for the original grips, which I replaced, I rate it about an 8.5

    Recently aquired 28-2

Very Nice. Unless there is anything wrong with it, it should be a real sweet shooter and with a little bit of cleaning and polishing the triggers are real nice. I have a 28-3 6" that I bought new in 1986 however from what I can tell mine was made in 1976. I went looking for .357 but the newer...

    Help with 9mm Please

I disagree with the above. You do need some crimp to hold the bullet enough so that chambering the round does cause the bullet to move and shorten the COL increasing your pressure. You also need to make sure the bullet does not move so you can reuse a round after it has been chambered. You don't...

    380 Auto reloads

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Sierra 8100. It is a 90 grain JHP. This happens to be my goto bullet for reloading 380. I like to use 3.0 grain of W231, for little more punch you can also load 3.1 of W231. From Sierra, "Sierra's Power Jacket with skives enhances expansion in...

    Help with 9mm Please

One suggestion. Using the Berry's I would go for a COL of 1.150 Most of the reloading data for Berry's calls for that length. Also as stated previously, use a taper crimp not a roll crimp.

M&P 9mm Reload with Chambered Round, Gun goes out of Battery

10 round mags, loaded with 10. Mags are not even close to new. They are all just shy of year old with about 4k rounds through them collectively. Recoil spring is stock, never changed. Same age as mags. 11 months with about 4k rounds on it. I was trying to reproduce the problem this morning...

M&P 9mm Reload with Chambered Round, Gun goes out of Battery

Sorry about the dupe. I didn't see that thread. Problems sounds the same. I will look everything over as I also installed an Apex in mine but that was 5+ months and 1800 rounds ago.

M&P 9mm Reload with Chambered Round, Gun goes out of Battery

No magazine safety. Magazines are un-modified. No cut followers, no loop removed from the magazine spring. I didn't even try pushing the slide forward. SOP for me in IDPA for this type of malfunction is rack and go. I am going to disassemble the gun and take a look. I will check out the...

    IMR 4227

I like 4227 for 30 Carbine loads. I have used it for 357 and it was OK however as others have mentioned there is unburned powder left. That was with Model 28 6" barrel.

M&P 9mm Reload with Chambered Round, Gun goes out of Battery

I had two instances of a problem yesterday that is bothering me. Full size M&P 9mm. I shot the IDPA Classifier yesterday. Which for those familiar with it know that stage 3 calls for 2 tactical reloads. Basically the gun has a round chambered and is in battery. You drop and store the mag and...

Opinions: RCBS Rock Chucker vs Lee Classic Cast

No experience with the new RCBS presses. My Rockchucker was boght new in the mid 80s and never had a problem with it. It is still going strong however since going to the dark side and getting a Dillon 650 for handgun loading my Rockchucker only sees duty for loading 270 and 30 Carbine these...

    Which dies, RCBS or Hornady?

I have used and owned RCBS, Redding and Dillon. Most of mine have been RCBS. For a single stage I like using the RCBS with single die for seating and crimping. All of the Redding I have used were one die for seating and a second for crimping. With a progressive I prefer to have separate seating...

    w231 & HP-38 replacement for new 45 acp ReLoader

I just got a couple of 8 lb. jugs of HP-38 a few weeks ago. Seems to be plenty around right now. That said, six months ago when I couldn't find any I got some CFE Pistol as a backup. Haven't tried the CFE Pistol and probably won't as long as I have HP-38 kicking around. I have been hearing...

    .30 cal. carbine reloading

I have a DuPont book and a Sierra book, both from the mid 80s, that have 30 Carbine load data for IMR4227. If you go to Hodgdon online load data they have some load data.

Anybody else having problems with hornady?

I have put about 50 rounds of the 115 Hornady Critical Defense through my 9mm Shield with no issues. In fact I have put over 2k rounds through my Shield with absolutely no problems. The following ammo has been used: American Eagle 115 & 124 Blazer Brass 115 & 124 Some bulk no name stuff from...

    Model 10-8 Pleasant Surpirse

My Dad died a few years ago and I grabbed all his guns. He had a Model 10-8 which he bought used. It was an old Police gun that they sold off when they moved to 9mm. It has some holster wear however it looks like it was not shot a lot. I never paid much attention to it when he got it and I never...

    M&P Shield Grips

I just bought some CDS Tactical grips for my Shield. They are basically Talon knock offs that are a few dollars cheaper. The guy told me they are made from the same exact material as Talons. They have a 1 year warranty and are made in Keene, NH. I haven't had a chance to put them on yet. Smith...
