What S&W's have you NEVER seen in real life?

Probably already mentioned but I'd say a Model 17 in factory nickel. I believe there are only 15 known to exist. The last one I heard come to market fetched somewhere around 12 grand.

    New to me 10-5

Congrats, it's a great gun. Models 10 are underappreciated by many but they are my favorite all around Smith. Getting harder and harder to find in minty condition as most were workhorses. I'm fortunate to have a blue and nickel of the -5, 6 and 7. Only have a blue 10-8 as the nickel -8 continues...

    Gun show lesson 15-4

I agree. Probably a flat head round punch at the wrong angle.

    Gun show lesson 15-4

That's a bummer indeed. I've never seen damage like that before. Hope somebody chimes in with an explanation.

Ever buy a gun to get the stocks?

Never have bought a gun just for the grips but I do buy grips all the time. It's sort of become an additional hobby for me.

New to me sixty year old pre-36 J frame

Congrats on your new addition. They are awesome little guns. I have 2 of them. One is a shooter and the other is dead new in the wrapper. Only complaint I have is having to wear double ear protection. Good lord, they are loud little buggers.

Difference Between Cokes & Diamond Magnums

Thanks Bullet Bob. I kind of figured as much but to my eye, I dont really see the resemblance to a coke bottle.

Difference Between Cokes & Diamond Magnums

LMAO. From what I have witnessed, that appears to be dead on.

Difference Between Cokes & Diamond Magnums

Ok, dumb question. Why are they referred to as "cokes"?

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

I tried to look up his posts near or after I bought the gun but there were none. Of those I read, he came across as a great, low key, kind of guy. Here is most of his 2 posts that led me to identifying the gun in the auction. "I have a Model 10-7 that has a case hardened frame, Ser# CRS0062. It...

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

Oh brother! I was too busy shooting the new Masterpiece to notice that one. Probably the smoothest trigger I have ever owned. Not to side track the thread but is Winchester white box filthy dirty stuff or is it just my imagination?

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

JSR III, My feeling of guilt was surprisingly fleeting. 1951 Trophy Gun? Wow! TheHobbyist, I feel your pain. Not to rub salt in the wound but there is a very empty box for that 357 on Ebay right now. The current bid is $723. Somebody needs to start a new thread labeled "Shoulda, woulda...

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

19leben. Not to long ago I bought a model 10? from an FFL, at an online auction. The sellers description said something to the effect of, "Nice condition model 10 that somebody has case colored the frame. I have no idea who did it but it looks good." The pictures were for **** and the seller...

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

A fine looking example at that. Very cool it has a family history. Honestly I've never shot one, but I will be this weekend. Woohoo!

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

Thanks engine49. In the hand, I'm liking this wide rib barrel. She's already a little dirty and dry from sitting in the box so long, so out to the cabin she goes this weekend for a little exercise.

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

Thanks guy's. Yeah, I guess the sun does shine on the sleeping dog's behind every once in a while. Funny thing is the seller was an FFL. There was an additional uproar of laughter when the guys heard it came from Cailfornia. Seriously, I'm not gloating but it sure is nice to snag one from an...

1951 K38 Masterpiece by shear luck

So a couple weeks ago, I'm going over my daily saved auction searches, one of which is Model 10's. Listing says 1964 Model 10-6 Target 38 special. Hmmm, there is no such animal so I look at the pictures. Looks like a very nice K38 in the Gold box to me. I was able to manipulate one of the...

The crud in 90 year old Regulation Police

As a car repair shop owner for 30 years, I second the 50/50 acetone and ATF. It is by far the best penetrating oil mixture for rusted seized up anything.
