Difference Between Cokes & Diamond Magnums

First, there are no diamond "magnums". They are diamond magNAS.
Second magnas are the grips that leave both the front and rear of the grip frame exposed. They are have a narrow, minimum width dimension front to rear.

The grips (or stocks to use S&W's term) that are most like "Cokes" are regular TARGET stocks.

The differences are that 1) the Cokes have a "palm swell" in the center of the panels so that when viewed from the rear they have a vaguely Cole bottle shaped outline, and 2) the Cokes have a larger area of checkering on each panel - with only about a 1/4" wide uncheckered border area around their outer edges, and the regular targets have an uncheckered border that is more like 3/8" to 1/2" wide.

I don't have pictures to post, but there are already several threads that do. Have you searched?

Cokes are also more oval shape in cross section, as can be seen when looking at the bottom. Regular targets look more like a square with rounded corners by comparison. Cokes are about the only factory grips made by Smith & Wesson that actually feel good in the hand.

Not real Cokes but you get the picture.

Can someone post a pic of both?, it's hard for me to tell the difference....

It was for me As well sir until I owned my first pair of them. Count the checkering behind the diamonds if cokes there should be five. Once you have a pair it will be clear from that moment on.

They are expensive and addictive, like cocaine.

Well, that and...:)

In the photo above, looking at the stocks from behind, they are narrower at the top and bottom and wider in the middle (aka "palm swell"), like an old-time soda bottle.

Not a dumb question; because of the flare for the palm swells and the flare at the butt, they remind a lot of people of the old coke bottles when viewed from the rear. There's probably more B.S. about "cokes" than any other subject. Here's one post from Doc44 in the Commentary section of this forum that has an explanation and pictures:

I see murphydog types faster than me, which puts him in a very large club!

I can recommend browsing the Commentary section for anyone looking to gain real knowledge about S&W's.

Thanks Bullet Bob. I kind of figured as much but to my eye, I dont really see the resemblance to a coke bottle.
