.38 Special, pre 10 or 36 model? Who Knows?

Thank you, Jim. I think I'll be showing this revolver off at my next barbeque. I appreciate the reiteration. I'm convinced it has been refinished and now know that the steer head grips are polyurethane, bakelite or a similar substance. Again, thank you for weighing in.

.38 Special, pre 10 or 36 model? Who Knows?

I did a hot needle test on the inside of one of the grips. If it were ivory, the needle wouldn't penetrate. The grips are probably polyurethane or bakelite, since the needle created a small hole.

.38 Special, pre 10 or 36 model? Who Knows?

Thank you, LedFowl. I think the gun has an overall good look. Since you bring it up, the gun reminds me of a shorter version of a TV cowboy pistol.

Thank you, Mike. Is it relevant that the grip frame has a "T" and "W" on it? I am so new at this and I want you to know that the information you provided is invaluable. I think it's time to get eyes-on from a local gun expert. Thank you very much.

    Pre Model 10 serial numbers

DWalt, I've searched numerous sites to get an idea of the ship date for this gun. Do you mind if I ask what reference you used for the April 1951 date? I may want to use it for another S&W gun I have. Again, I appreciate your expertise. Thank you!

Thank you, Cooter Brown. I'm happy to have the gun, but my hopes of it being really rare are dwendling. It has a history; was carried by a slain officer. Some of the history is family related, so it will make a good heirloom. I appreciate your expertise.

    Pre Model 10 serial numbers

Thank you, DWalt. The grips remind me of Bakelite, a popular 1950's hard plastic. I don't think they are ivory, either. I am not an expert, but I don't think that ivory yellows to the color of thess grips. I appreciate your help!
