    1956 Pre-36 Chiefs Special

A steal on a local auction. 98% condition. I could flip this for twice what I paid but it was a bucket list revolver. Very faint line on the cylinder but other than that it looks unfired. Grips match. Never taken off as they showed a faint line from the factory that was taken off easily with...

    Mod 36 estimated ship date

Went to the auction house. Locks up tight, grips matched. Definitely better than 90% condition. I won the bid at $470! Pics to follow once I get back from visiting family in MN.

    Mod 36 estimated ship date

Would $500 be too much to offer for this? Looks by the photos to be 90% condition, I'll verify that tomorrow when I examine the pistol. Thanks for the heads up Todd, I have two Tylers on my other Model 36's and they are great!

New to me--> Model 36 Chief Special

Unsure of the year. I had to have one! This is a blued finish although the seller's photos don't make it appear that way. It appears the grips have been re-varnished. I noticed it has the smaller S&W stamp, others I've seen more recently have a larger one. Any clue? I'm guessing a 70's or 80's...

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

Archangel, I use a 405 gr bullet with 26 gr of AA5744 that travels 1325 fps. With the 500 gr, I use 62 grs of BP, and it travels 1150 fps. Very fun to load black powder. Time consuming, but rewarding! Just don't do it in a lightning storm! ;)

    Winchester 1894 stamped 38-55&30-30

True statement! I picked up my Chief Crazy Horse commemorative for $300 less than a standard Win 94 (in 38-55) And it gets shot every week-end. :)

Bring out your commanders! :) Mine, next to its 100 year old brother.

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

There were more Springfield Trapdoors made than Winchester 1873 rifles. It's not like this is a rare rifle. ;) But I get what you're saying. I have a no-virgins policy. Guns are like engines, the longer they sit without being exercised, the more run down they'll be! That said, I laugh when I...

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

Already done that 4 years ago. I use Starline brass. I do admit, I reloaded 32 cases in Mike's original Winchester cases after wet tumbling, annealing and resizing. Only one split on the lip when mouth flaring. Not bad for over 80 year old brass! I'll keep these "New Old Stock" reloaded...

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

Beautiful! It's a shame it doesn't have the original stock and barrel but hey, it's a working rifle! :)

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

Most of the brass was original to the box based on the stamps but the loads were hand loaded by Mike.

Analysis of a 45-70 cartridge hand load from 1955

Fun topic I wanted to write about, and how I got sucked into BPCR. This is about a man I used to discuss the Korean War at length with while we were blessed with his present on this earth. Let’s call him Mike for this discussion. Mike was a Infantryman in the Army during the Korean War. A vet...

    Loading for S&W 66-1

I am keeping velocity with target loads between 1000 and 1100 using CFE Pistol Powder (there are better powders for .357 mags, I just happen to have a lot of it!) and a 148 gr SWC bullet from a Lyman mold (358477) My 6" -Model 66-3 is my most accurate hand gun on the range, with the Colt...

    SNS Castings bullets

Last month I took the plunge into the casting and powder coating world. My first batch was .357 magnum, using a Lyman mold that throws a 148 gr bullet (with #2 Lyman alloy) The powder coating was simple. I put together a couple of vids for my sons since one day they'll probably want to do it...

Colt to produce a throwback M16A1

Interesting! What will the twist rate be? Original Armalite twist (1/14, Unstable bullet flight, wounded more enemy) or 1/12 or modern 1/9....or 1/7 (sucks for 55 gr bullets)
