Ok, we just did the rub test and it smells like rubber. There is no markings on the inside of either stock. The one side is ground down probably due to excess casting.

Yes, the sights are the reason we got a letter on it (forgot to take a pic of that), yours has a great story-I wish these old guns could talk! The letter did not talk about the sights, my guess is that it was short of matching parts. The letter was pretty disappointing.
