    Lubricants

I clean the bore with Hoppes #9 solvent, clean the whole gun with Break Free CLP, oil parts that swivel/rotate w/hoppes oil, grease pets that slide with Miltec, and oil internal parts with Remoil then wipe with a silicone rag before storage.

    Sherpa/fleece safe for storage?

My ccollection is still pretty small, too small to warrant a whole safe (one day!). My question is will the gun rug prevent it from breathing and maybe cause some rust EVEN THOUGH it's in a borestore in a gunrug? Reason why I want to keep it in a gun rug too is to be able to quickly identify...

    Sherpa/fleece safe for storage?

I do live in Florida just a few miles from the beach so t is pretty humid over here. I'm thinking of storing it in a Borestore in a gun rug in my bag. Now I understand a borestore is breathable but a gunrug might not be. Do I still need a silica gel packet in there or should the borestore and a...

    Sherpa/fleece safe for storage?

Guess I'll do this. Borestore inside of a gun rug. Now the question is, do I still need silica gel?

    Sherpa/fleece safe for storage?

Is a Sherpa-lined gun rug safe for storing a gun as far as moisture goes? I believe it's made of polyester.

    Cylinder problems?

I put a tiny dab of grease on the center of the star, don't know what you would call it. It's the part that holds the cylinder shut. Seems to glide a bit smoother. I see on the gram where it's kind of leaving a track, I guess with time it will smoothen out. Thanks for the advice and for sharing...

    Cylinder problems?

Yes I am aware about not flicking it shut, but I didn't think spinning was bad (as long as you're not flicking t shut as it's spinning). I took a firearms training course, pretty much knew everything that was covered (ammo types, semi auto types, 4 cardinal rules). Other ppl on the class has...

    Cylinder problems?

^ thanks for the reply, I will put a tiny bit of grease on the star. I looked closer and the gap between the cylinder and forcing cone is a hair, so that looks good...but in the back - the cylinder rubs against the frame when going to close. I'll put a tiny bit of lube here, but should I be...

    Cylinder problems?

I'm pretty new to firearms so I'm not quite sure what you're refering to...could you be a bit more specific?

    Cylinder problems?

Just picked up my new 686 and the cylinder is kind of hard to open and sometimes difficult to close. I made sure everything is lubed up nicely but is still somewhat difficult to open and close. Sometimes so much that it feels like it's binding against something and I have to reopen and reattempt...

    Maintenance of wood grips

Impregnated with what? BLO? Tung? Called s&w and the gentleman didn't really seem to know. He said to clean them with Break Free.

    Maintenance of wood grips

Is there any benefit to using linseed or tung oil on poly finished grips?

    Maintenance of wood grips

Thanks for the input folks. I'm looking for something to use every time after the range. I would imagine that wax would build up if used that frequently. Do you guys wipe down your grips with anything between wax applications? Maybe pledge or murphys oil soap?

    Maintenance of wood grips

I placed an order for a new 686 6in deluxe and am curious as to what I should use to maintain the wood grips on it. From my understanding, they are either poly or laquer finish (correct me if I'm wrong) so using tung or linseed oil would be pointless. I like to clean my firearm after every use...
