    696 or Other 44?

Can’t speak to the 696 specifically but I imagine durability shouldn’t be an issue for it’s intended cartridge. In fact after playing with both special and magnum loads in my 69 I don’t find the 69 practical to shoot with magnums unless you’re using rubber grips like the x frame hogues. I do...

    Age Poll

I often joke with my wife (who’s a few years older than me) I’m 38 going on 58. I like steaks, steel and wood. No plastic on my guns, knives or any synthetic junk for me.

    Do they make 7.5” X-Frame P.C. holsters?

The Galco Kodiak fit mine perfectly. The 7.5” PC is actually also 8 3/8 when including the brake. The profile of the shroud did not effect fit.

Smith 500 7.5 PC back to the mothership

Thanks Don I agree, I handled another 8 3/8 fixed comp model at the local bass pro and could immediately tell it had a tighter b/c gap. My 629-6 is also new and has zero perceptible endshake, guess mine was a Friday gun. I included a polite, written request to both tighten the gap and fix the...

Smith 500 7.5 PC back to the mothership

Hey Guys, Had a beauty of a 500, brand new from Buds earlier this year. Only 35rds thru her before I started taking measurements. .005 endshake and .009-.010 b/c gap Sent back on the 13th to fix but learned it’ll be another 5-6 weeks before I get her back. That sound about right to you? Not...

    Thinking about getting into reloading

If you go with a Lee kit, I suggest automatically upgrading the “perfect” powder measure to the deluxe version (metal body) The plastic leaked ball powder badly. I save tons on reloading Smith 500, can’t say the same for common calibers but it is a fun hobby when you really get into it.

    S&W 500 6.5" or 8 3/8"?

I have the 7.5PC but with the 360 brake it’s the same as the 8 3/8, wonderful gun but can be nose heavy after awhile. The sorbothane grip does a lot in softening the recoil. Being 10oz lighter with classic lines (if you dig it) I’d lean towards the 6.5 between the two. Now my dream 500 would...

    Considering a snub S&W PC 629

I had the same dilemma, ended up with the 629-6 3” deluxe. feels well balanced in hand and looks classy but trigger was concrete heavy, front sight base uneven and sight blade canted. All fixable but my 500 from the PC was immaculate. Only one example but the PC model likely will have the edge...

    S&W500 and 2400

Thanks Ruggy, after digging, digging, and more digging you’re input seems validated. Will just see if I can trade off for some 1680/4227. Thanks for your advice

    S&W500 and 2400

Hey guys, I know 2400 is a go to for 44/45 but anyone use it for the 500? I’m finding hardly any load data for it but I have an old school 5lb can of the Hercules 2400 waiting to crack open. I know it’s a little faster than H110/296 but it’s also less sensitive to lower charges. I’m just...

If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

500PC and 629 Deluxe I’ve owned Super Redhawks and a 29 before, but now know what a BIG gun really is, PC trigger is out of this world. The 629, heeeaaavvvyy trigger, more than any wheelgun I’ve owned but she’s a looker. Some Hogue makes her a joy to hold.

    Hello from GA

Hey guys, First timer to this forum. I usually frequent castboolits and singleaction, but started getting my feet wet with Smiths and I’m loving them. My humble collection so far, more will certainly be added. So much history to S&W and their wheelguns I decided this would be the best place...
