proud to be revolver shooting fuddy duddy

did turn informative, despite my best efforts ha ha. anyway, glad we still have the ability, more or less, to own what we like and shoot the same. Different strokes for different folks is how it is and should always be. Thanks to some of the old pros for their insight. As far as being...

proud to be revolver shooting fuddy duddy

you know, I am sure I could get good with the red dot and all, but the gun did not make me want to shoot it. The old classic revolvers, whether it be s&w, colt ruger or what have you, they make me want to go out and have some fun. and the practice is fun and improvement seems to come easier.

proud to be revolver shooting fuddy duddy

was at the range shooting my ruger gp100, a 4.2 inch 357 mag revolver but I had 38 wadcutters loaded. Guy next to me has a new glock 9 mil of some sort, with the red dot sight. Guy says, can he try my gun and do I want to try his. Now to be honest, I like revolvers, never had much interest...

    Who carries a blackjack?

sure they are illegal to carry around here, but I have a "shelelagh" on a shelf in my room. its a short length of the required blackthorn lead loaded at the end. you'd never smack a friend with it thats for sure:eek:

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

the dog can be a tremendous asset, even if they won't actually savage the intruder. but it could be a nice perk with some dogs, lol. Anyhow, something I realized when my neighbor had his attempted home invasion. He is a large imposing dude, with an alarm on the house. I am a small...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

some good thoughts Doug, and a bit similiar to my own. We had one attempted break in 20 years back, which was handled by the female pit we had back then. We then had an attempted home intrusion to the next door neighbors house, 3 years ago. I feel pretty strongly that the dogo, even if...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

yeah, the whole not enough velocity to expand the bullet properly kind of makes me lean toward the wadcutters even more. No body has mentioned a downside that would overcome all the advantages, to my mind. Course, right now the s&w is doing a stint in the nightstand, I don't want to give it...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

Well, as they say horses for courses. If I were shooting coyotes I would certainly load .357's in it. If it may have to go off inside and there are other options, a 357 is not good around here. it might also go thru 3 houses.

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

These ones are Fiocchi 148 gr LWC 800FPS out of a 6" barrel? mines only a 4.2 but it probably does not lose too much

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

I have shot the +p speer golddots hollow point, and agree that they shoot very well and accurate. The hollow point is hollow..the Hornady +p shoots well also, and has the plastic bead in it. I was told ( by a range fly ha ha) that a shot from a speer will get you in trouble with the law...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

I am leaning a bit towards the wadcutters, have only had them to the range a couple of times, but they are very accurate, not as loud as most, and make a pretty good hole..If I have the chance to test wadcutters and plus p loads side by side for penetration, that would probably make my...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

thanks for the b'day wishes Alan, yes the Dogo is a good breed. Like many good dogs, very friendly but knows when to growl. And the bite is about 200lb per sq in. harder than a pit bulls- you do not want her on you I can guarantee it

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

well, as to a different gun...probly not. I shoot the ruger pretty well, and many home defense loads are available. not a huge collector guy, I have a s&w model 18 and the ruger, and thats probably what I'll have for good, being 68..today actually is my b'day..so any bad guys that may want...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

plenty of food for thought there, but still a toss up. Pretty much everything except crappy reloads shoot very well in my pistol, which is a (gulp) ruger gp100 with a 4.2" barrel. I also sometimes have my model 18 loaded with segmented quiets in the ol nightstand. I guess I am worried...

a question on home defense ammo, .357/.38 rev.

using a 357 magnum as home defense, but of course those are too hot. So I have bought, of course hoping I never need them, is Hornady Home defense loads in .38 + p with the plastic bead in a hollow point. But lately I have been target shooting some .38 wadcutters, and I wonder if they...

I got a chance to spend time at the range today. Overall it likes jacketed ammo better. It got a little gritty feeling after a box of Remington lead 40 grain bullets. I cleaned it up and went to cci stingers and she likes that better. Some of them were snug but usable.
