    Model 686-6 Plus

A Smith and Wesson in kydex…..I’m still struggling with that one. How could anyone not love a Mini 14 like this one? Just my opinion, a lot of the bums on the internet with a camera doing “gun reviews” ought to sit down and be quiet. They get a Mini. Then go to chinamart and buy the...

    Advantages of 681 over 686?

Factory repair - now heavy trigger pull

Again, “noticeably harder” is not a standard unit of measure of measure. And just because someone is not thrilled with new revolver (that I speculate isn’t even broken in) they bought, doesn’t give them the right to pester the warranty dept of S&W. And if they Smith away new guns to everyone...

Does This Look Like Normal Wear

In which holster do you carry that revolver? That looks like holster wear. I love pretty bluing, and ceracote. But most of my guns are stainless. That way, they won’t change colors.

Model 19 cracked forcing cone - odds

The new ones are tough. Buy one to shoot. The old ones were prettier but more delicate. Buy one to look at.

Factory repair - now heavy trigger pull

Tight and heavy are not standard units of measure. They're an opinion. If you want to talk about trigger pull weight, first you will need to know the actual weight. Get a trigger pull gauge and give us some numbers. I'm sorry to be so crass. Would you rather have a 357 that works every time...

Good things come to those who wait, and wait and wait......

You were so over come with joy that you leaned your new $1200 work of art on a rusty woven wire fence.

    Model 686-6 Plus

Have you seen what Mini-14s are bringing now days? Besides that, Minis are pretty cool. And if you ever have to use one, you'll get off more readily per James Reese (YouTube gun guy/lawyer) if you use a Mini-14 than an AR. Do what you want, but I'll always have a Mini-14 around.

    Quality Control

The transfer bar passed the OLD test. That is no longer good enough. The hammer must now also stay cocked. Colt could have gone the route of the L frame Smiths and ruined the classic silhouette, or do the hooked hammer. I like what Colt has done. It’s not that hard to send the trigger and...

Master Revolver Action Package: Yes or No?

Yes, I have complained too much about that gun. But when I hand over $1200 and have nothing to show for it I tend to vent. But in all fairness, I picked up a 3 inch 686 Plus. $920, new, OTD. It’s a great gun. I love the 3 Plus. Hate the MG.

    Alternative to Jordan Trooper stocks.

When I clicked on the Jordan’s on the Herrett’s page, they wouldn’t pop up. In the 80s when I was a struggling young man, like most of you I read all the gun magazines I could get my hands on. Bill Jordan was one of my favorites. Pachmyer made at the time a plastic reproduction of the Jordan...

Color matters! When it comes to EDC / CCW leather belts, holsters and pouches - learned my lessons!

Matte Black makes everything disappear. I had chrome “Mickey Mouse Ear” mirrors on a Honda 919 motorcycle. They literally stuck out. I painted them black, and they practically disappeared. If you’re like me and all your leather is tan, maybe consider tan Carhart jeans for a little better...

    645 rear sight

The LPA sight works well, except…. The LPA sticks up and there’s a big gap between it and the top of the slide. I could never get used to how it looked. The rear sight notch is very shallow. I never liked that either. The LPA that I have fits the rear dovetail of my 645 slide extremely...

Master Revolver Action Package: Yes or No?

If you find where these “Local Revolversmiths “ are hiding, let me know. I usually have something that needs their attention. My ‘Smith is 400+ miles away, and backed up 3 years, and is turning down work. The 686 Mountain gun that I foolishly bought back in June, (it’s now late August)...

    Quality Control

The safety standard used to be that a gun, when fired from 3 meters/10 feet, could not discharge. Now, the standard is that the hammer cannot fall. That is why the Smiths, even without the lock, still have the internal flag lock. Smith's solution is actually very clever. Colt went about not...

    1'st Shots 686 Mountain Gun

A little sandpaper will take the tops off the diamonds off those grips, and they’ll be much better. Man, that gun recoils. If I didn’t know better, I’d have guessed he was shooting a 44M.

    3" 686 CS1 2M

There are Glocks for knuckle heads that call fine S&Ws "boat anchors". This is my Imitation Border Patrol 686-4. Karl Sokol did it for me many years ago. It’s a wonderful gun. It I’d super accurate. I caught a lot of deer here in southern Indiana with that gun from a tree stand before rifles...
