Default IDPA Match

I shot my first IDPA match today. I ran into an old friend a few weeks ago and he asked if I wanted to check it. I figured I would use it for a little range time and see what it is all about. The gun club that hosts the monthly match is only a few minutes from the front door too. I used a Glock G17 (sorry folks, I'll try a revolver another time) and had a pretty good time. I can state that I do need practice, but all in all it was fun.

I took a ride on the bike to a match today. I had just planned to shoot & leave but was needed to R.O. so I spent the day. We had several new shooters..all seemed to like it--especially the little dude (I'd guess he was 8 or 9 years old.) His dad's fairly new to IDPA as well so one of the experienced shooters coached him through. He shot a Buckmark .22 (not actually allowed in IDPA, for those who don't know). We had him start gun-in-hand but I'd bet he'd have been OK to shoot from the draw. I was ROing a fairly simple 12 shot minimum stage-----he went through zero points down & seemed to have a blast doing it. It's great to see a youngster with so much respect for safety and listening to his instructor. He's our future.. I shot IHMSA long range Silhouettes for years....then got to watch the sport dwindle because older guys had trouble seeing iron sights and stopped shooting and there were no younger guys to pick up the torch.
