Have been out of the game a few years, recently aquired a mod. 625-3, 3" is this acceptable barrel length for USPSA or ICORE ? Thanks

It's legal for any gun game but the short barrel is not ideal. I also have a 3" 625 that I have used in IDPA and USPSA. The accuracy requirements of ICORE are a bit more stringent so the 3" barrel will be more of a struggle here. But it's certainly legal.

I think in the USPSA revolver class the only rule is a maximum barrel length of 8 3/8".

"Acceptable" is the key word in your question. As Dave noted, your gun would be legal for both ICORE and USPSA, it would also be legal for IDPA. In fact it would be much better suited to IDPA, than the other two. For ICORE and USPSA, the 5" barrel is much better suited to the longer distance shots you might encounter. If you have your mind set on ICORE or USPSA competition your should have no trouble finding someone willing to trade a 625 with a 5 inch barrel for your 3" version. The longer barrels also work well for both of those sports but tend to get a little muzzle heavy.

Wrong, there is no size restriction in USPSA revolver DIVISION (CLASS is how well you shoot, not the type of equipment).

There is a barrel length restriction (USPSA) but it applies if you're shooting a revolver in Production. For a S&W revolver it's "Any DAO or DA/SA revolver with a barrel length of up to 8.5" is approved".

Thanks alot to everyone for your information and advice all was well recieved. I'm only planning on the occasional shoot, due to my work related travel and not being able to count on free weekends my shooting will be occasional. Just really enjoy the sport and being able to be around like minded people. Kinda like this forum, which I enjoy every night after work when I'm not at home wearing the finish off of one of my blued revolvers. Got classified in Limited 1o and Single stack now on to Revolvers. Everone have a great day. Thanks agin Tim

Not that you can't do it, but the 3" in USPSA will be a challenge. Another thing, having to make major with the 3", the ammo would beat you to death by the end of a 200 round match.

I shoot a 5". Revo is my Division of choice.
