I'm with the rest....get it! The early guns with the concave tops on the grips and the grooves cut in the sides of the hammer and inspected by Gilbert Stewart are worth a small premium according to Supica. I was able to snag a M1917 in similar condition some years ago; never regretted it! Piece of history.

Guys that you for your advice, much appreciated. I ended up trading another revolver ($700 value) for this gun. Now I would have to do some historic research as I do with all my wartime guns. Unfortunately serial number is not mentioned in SR files but I send a request to Archival Research group to see if he can find something on this gun.

Buy it. That is a sweet gun. Enjoy owning and using it. That's a shootable collector's piece.

I've sold, traded, and just given away a lot of guns over the last 50 years, the only one I truly miss is the 1917. If I ever find THAT gun again, I don't care what I have to sell, beg, borrow or steal, I'll have it back. Buy I can't imagine you not falling in love.

$800 is a good price for even a miser like me. If it's tight, in time, and the bore and chambers are decent, grab it if you can.

As others have said, it's a steal for $800 if all matching. Inside of right grip should have serial number in pencil as well as bottom of barrel, back of cylinder and back side of ejector. Assuming all matching, I wouldn't hesitate for $800
