Default M&P FPC sling -- does that even make sense?

How ridiculous is it to put a sling on an FPC? Is it going against the idea of having a compact carbine that you can quickly put away (and otherwise going to get into the way of using it)?

Or is there a sling setup that makes more sense for it?

Personally, in most cases, I don't think it's a bad idea to have a 2-point sling on any shoulder mounted firearm.

A sling can always help you retain your weapon in a struggle as well. It's not just for ease of carry.

Or, slinging your long gun while transitioning to your sidearm. Or, use as a 'Hasty Sling' when shooting off-hand. Etc., etc......

Everything is application driven.

My application for a pistol caliber carbine does not involve me carrying it all over the place. But someone might be traipsing around in the woods with theirs and want a sling.

I’m not sure why a sling would get in the way.

100% agree. A good sling has so many uses.

And there are easy ways to stow a sling on the gun while not in use.

One of the biggest issues with having a sling on a long gun is when moving around "clearing" the house, be very mindful of the sling catching/snagging on things like doorknobs, arms or chairs or other items. I do like having a sling on long guns but you really need to practice working a sling with an UNLOADED weapon to see where those spots in the house are that can/will reach out and grab you.
If you are barricading in place behind the bed or other furniture in a central location, hopefully on the phone with 911 waiting for the police to arrive, then a sling may not be needed.

I think mine came with a sling. I'll have to check the case, but recall (perhaps incorrectly) a single point sling in the bag.

EDIT. It did not. Was some sort of shoulder strap for the gray bag.

I added a sling today. Used an M-Lok QD sling mount on the front right side and the factory stock QD mount. It can go from two point to one point by disconnecting the front and snapping that end into a ring on the sling. Does not interfere with folding. Easy on. Easy off.

Default Sling

How well does the carbine hang with the sling mou Ted so low on the stock of the gun? Your fpc is the only one I found with a sling so far and I want a good setup but the stock and charge handle makes it difficult. Also what brand sling is that? Thanks in advance!

As stated by several others, there are tons of reasons to have a sling on your long gun.

If a sling is "getting in the way of using" any gun you own, then you are training wrong. Sling control or "management" should be practiced anytime you shoot with your firearm.

And a good QD mount makes removing it easier than changing mags. A lot of my carbines have slings but I remove them for storage or when shooting off a tabletop. If your sling is dangling and a snag hazard, use it or lose it...a sling being used properly is not a snag hazard...

A sling is to any shoulder weapon as a holster is to any handgun.

You can use zip ties to attach the carry case sling to your FPC.

Default Took a lot of searching

But the sling appears to be one of these - KOBRA (QD): 2 to 1 Point Convertible Sling

You might want to try a Vickers sling.
Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Unpadded Sling w/Nylon Adjuster | Up to 32% Off 4.8 Star Rating Free Shipping over $49!
The neat thing about these is that each end has the usual adjustment. But there in the middle is a nice heavy 3" chunk of double or triple webbing that you grab and slide. It has enough adjustment to go from loose enough to shoot to tighter against your chest while hiking. Or fine w/o a vest to fine w/ a vest.

I created a very short video on YouTube for this exact issue. Your sling can be attached all the time for right handers. https://youtu.be/joZAJeuVH88?si=XlUuUZud4Ff-_nkv

Thumbs up

I attached a single point sling to the preexisting sling point on the stock. I had a spare standard 1.25 inch Sling Swivel mount and a vanilla single point sling. The Coban(blue stuff) is to prevent rattle. I wanted to have a sling to allow me to release my hands from it if I had to. For me the mandate is to have a sling or a holster for any firearm I carry. The basic single point works well for me. I might need my hands free and I do not want to put it down. It's not like I'm doing marches or matches.

Edit Added : 45 degree angle sights are very handy but probably unneeded by most users.
