Default S&W Model 1700LS

I acquired one of these rifles about two years ago for a VERY reasonable price. I found out about the recall and sent the bolt in and was very pleased with the customer service and the way they handled the process.
I've only shot it a handful of time so far but was curious if anyone else has one of these rifles and what they think of it. I'm also looking to get a bipod for it and could use some referrals there.

I have a 1500 in 3006 and it shoots well, seems to like Winchester ammo better than Remington ammo. What caliber is yours? Do you have pictures? I need to take some of mine and post them.

Here's mine in 300 Win Mag:
Pretty m uch been every state west of the Rockies at one time or another! At least 3 elk, some mulies and a whole bunch of wild pigs. Bell & Carlson stock, Rustoleum paint-job. and a Harris Bi-pod at times.

The 1700LS Classic Hunter was introduced in 1984 and also discontinued in 1984 when Smith and Wesson dropped the whole long gun line. The 1700LS was offered in .30-06, .270 and .243.

If you need a manual for the rifle I've posted some in pdf form here Model 3000 & 1000 Shotgun, 1500 & 1700 Rifle Manuals

I bought mine new in 1984 for a deer hunting trip in Montana. It is a nice lightweight package for carrying but recoils a bit hard in .30-06...Though, I bagged my first deer with one shot with it, and didn't notice any recoil at all.

The whole 1500 and 1700 series of S&W rifles were excellent rifles made for them by Howa and they sold new for reasonable prices.

Default S&W 1700LS questions

Does anyone have any idea where I might find a magazine for my S&W (HOWA) 1700LS in .243 and another in .270? I acquired these 2 rifles in new condition but with NO magazines. Since they are 1984 rifles, I cannot find any replacement mags. If anyone knows of a possible source, please reply...

Does anyone know if mags for the 1500 series will work in the 1700LS series?

Thanks!
