Can I change it out and if so, how do you remove it? Thanks.

You can replace the stock with a milspec stock such as Magpul.

The Magpul CTR will fit. Any stock that will fit a mil-spec *carbine* buffer tube will fit on the 15-22. Stocks that require a rifle buffer tube such as Magpul PRS will not fit. The extension tube is molded as part of the lower receiver. Also if you've pulled your buttstock off, have you noticed the pull tab on the plug in the end of the extension tube? The tube can be used as a storage compartment.

How to remove the OEM stock
I see nobody has answered your question on how to get the OEM stock off. Pull the spring-loaded lever on the bottom of the stock straight down far enough and you'll be able to pull it right off the end of the 'buffer tube'.
You will have to pull it down about twice as far as it would normally move when you slide the butt stock in or out.

If you are in a state that requires a pinned stock, removing the pin is a bug no-no. You don't want to mess around with firearms violations.

^^^This.
You can remove the pin to adjust the stock to the desired position, and then re-pin it in place.

You can also remove the pin to change the stock for a different one and pin the new one on.

Fixed stock
I purchased a M&P 15-22 for my wife and she is having a problem getting s proper grip because the stock is set at one position. I want to either adjust the stock or replace it. With that said, how can I remove the stock?
