Maybe it was real world simulation practice. I don't wear eye protection. That's for little girls.

Why dont you just change out the handguard to something you like?
Fishslayer, how do you pick that thing up???? That is awsome, keep it up, and we might have a good way to disguse our rifles. They won't be so scarry if they look like transformers.

I don't think there are any other hand guards available.

You can put on any standard AR free float handguard. There is an adapter on eBay. I put it on and it works great. When you use a good quality barrel nut wrench, it only takes a couple minutes to switch from custom to original. If you just want to swap the free float hand guards, maybe a minute.

any issues with the handguard turning the adapter barrel nut loose?
i was going to either remove the handguard front clip or actually ream it out a bit with the dremel to free float the barrel withouth needing to change handguards. i just can't see giving up all the OE rail space.

No problems with the barrel nut adapter coming loose. The barrel thread is very fine and the handguard has coarse threads. The coarse ones will break loose before the fine ones. Plus the adapter is aluminum, so it pulls heat away from the chamber.
It's nice to not have to stick with what the factory says you have to do. As in;
You can have any hand guard you want, so long as you want the one we put on.
Not me. I gotta do it my way.

YIKES! That thing is not mine! Just a photo I snaked off the 'net. Google "tacticool."
My .22 is silver & black, has a rotary mag and is NOT S&W. FWIW, it hasn't performed flawlessly, either.
Ummm... I didn't pay $500 for it, but it still bites when a product doesn't perform...

not cocked, i was told not to force it to SAFE when uncocked. i figure no round in the chamber uncocked is safe enough. i probably could have cocked it put it to safe and then slapped the mag in. i took the pic took the mag out, checked the chamber then put it right back in the case.

here's my little plinker!
I added a couple of little "crate" parts I had laying around in...well in a crate! The little hogue jr works pretty good on the front grip and doesnt trip off the pressure switches like i thought it was going to do...and adds a nice feel to the front grip...everything added were budget parts I had laying around. Literally..the buttpad is off a mossberg maverick i put a PG on, but even the red-dot worked out with a nice co-witness. heading off tomorrow(saturday) to have Belt_Fed do a little magic to the barrel.

it's the factory one off a mossberg maverick pump 12gauge...I drilled 2 holes in the flat part of the stock and ran some screws into it...it isnt flimsy or loose or anything it worked out great! the rubber is reinforced with a metal plate under the rubber so the screws had something solid to grab other than just rubber...I put a pistol grip on the 12 gauge and figured one day I would have a use for the "spare" parts!

Heres my new QD sling mount. You can run it regular, or on either side.
I got those pics from tacticool22.com

This is a method I learned from ar15.com
Clean the area with soap or rubbibg alcohol make sure it free from oil and dust particles.
Then just rub and push the cryons tips in to it.
with finger tip pressure, use rag damped with WD-40 to wipe off the excess.
That's all to it.
I have use the same on my other black guns for over a few years now.

Does it last a long time or do you need to redo it every once in awhile?

I did my GSG5 only once and it has been a year and a half now and still OK.
The beauty is it is wax so it does not get wash away with gun oil/cleaner and does not faded.
If the worst came, I will just pick it with a toothpick a re-do again in less than 5 min.

Well i tried the colorfil with crayola idea. I really like it! I especially like the fact that if i don't like it anymore or if i want to change the colors i can do so with impunity. Thanks for the idea.

yeah, thats a pretty neat idea! I had to jump on the band wagon, but.. obviously I had to give it my own 'mark'.. so, I did this..
I ended up just using a damp rag instead of the wd-40, and after i got it all clean, i took a lighter and ran it back & forth to kind of melt it down, and I gives it a nice sheen to the wax.
Doing the S&W logo was a MAJOR pain in the *****. keeping the red out of the white, and vice-versa was a nightmare, but I think it paid off, as.. its a one-of-a-kind. (for now.. )
Thanks for the tip!

Sweet job man! I know it was tough just doing the hyphen in 15-22 on the right side without getting the colors crossed. So I know how tough it must have been to do the logo that way.
Good job. Not doing anything with the other side of the receiver?
