Default Bolt won't stay open for M&P 15-22

Sometimes the bolt won't stay open after I fire my last round. It doesn't matter what ammo, fast firing, slow firing. It happens about half the time. Any ideas on fixes, parts, Etc.
Thanks in advance

How much lube are you using on the bolt carrier gorup?

What type of lube are you using?

What temperature is it where your shooting?

What type of ammo are you using?

Is the action clean?

Does the bolt catch look normal? Any noticeable wear?

Does the bolt catch operate freely?

Does your magazine follower operate freely? With an empty mag, pull the follower down, than slowly let it back up. Does it return all the way up every time?

Any of these things could contribute to the problem.

I am putting the lightest film of Hoppe's lubricating oil on the bolt carrier rail.
The temp has been from the high 60's to the high 20's
Mini Mags, stingers, vipers, Fed bulk, Rem. GB (never again) and some other brands. Makes no difference tho.
I always clean my rifles after shooting. No cleaning residue and very light oiling
The catch looks normal and operates perfectly when I pull the charging handle with an empty mag. Too new for any wear.
The catch operates freely, no binding, or grit.
The mags work perfect. I took them apart and made sure there was no plastic chunks in them. There wasn't. That tip was from another post about mag problems.
When operated manually, with an empty mag, the catch always catches. No matter how fast or slow I pull the charging handle.

I've no idea what Hoppes lubricating oil is, but have you tried CLP? No bolt hold open issue with mine carbine and four different magazines.

ok, one last thing that I can think of to check. Your bolt carrier group rails. Check and make sure they are straight an parallel and that the bolt is not dragging on a portion of it. Might also help to disassemble the BCG to make sure there are no burrs on the inside of the rail.

Hoppes lubricating oil is the oil that comes with the Hoppes cleaning kit. It is a high viscosity, penetrating oil that my family has used for many many years. It works great.
I have dis-assembled the BCG and de-burred and polished every edge. I am a mold maker, and I hate burrs on any metal part. Didn't make a difference.
Thanks for the input. I'll keep working on it.

OK, you've not tried CLP!

I remember the oil my family used for years on racing sailboats. When CLP hit the arms room I tried a bottle and the difference was startling over plain oil. Had to buy new cleats for a couple of lines. The friction just disappeared.

I think you meant low viscosity.

Weapons Shield, FP10, RemOil, and BreakFree CLP are commonly available CLPs.

In the military sense CLP is a specification, not a formula, so there are several ways of achieving the same result. BreakFree (brand) was the original contract CLP and is still on the market commercially, but hasn't had the military contract in 20 years.

The military currently wants a wet CLP to allow debris to flow out of the weapon. Slide Glide appears to be a grease. Grease adds friction which slows working parts. Grease is not a specified lubricant for any modern handgun or rifle other than the lil' Rohrbaugh 9mm I once owned.

A .22 is fine for experimentation. So are gun games pistols and rifles. But I don't experiment with my weapons.
