So, I'm looking to pick up an M&P15-22. What I'm debating is whether to get the one with the standard fixed iron sights or the new MOE version with Magpul MBUS. I do like the other parts on the MOE version of the rifle, but a little unsure of the sights.

I intend to shoot the rifle at an Appleseed event and want to learn on iron sights (much cheaper on a .22LR than my .223). So, can anyone with experience with these iron sights comment on which would be better to use as primary sights? It appears that the standard 15-22 sights are closer to typical A2 parts, but I can't find any particular make for them.

Thanks,
Jeff

I've always thought that the 15-22 sights look like they came out of the UTG parts bin.

One of the great features of the 15-22 is it's light weight. Though, the sights weigh close to a whopping half pound! Magpul MBUS are very light and you can feel the difference with your rifle. Replacing the factory sites with MBUS and a Primary Arms Micro Dot with tall riser only added a couple ounces over the factory weight.

I don't have any experience with the MBUS but I will soon. Yesterday I ordered one as a replacement for my front sight. My thinking is that they are very similar to the factory sights but have the advantage of flipping down for use with other optics. I'll try and post once it arrives and I've tried it out.

well shows what i know i though utg made them for s&w.. i know i read that somewhere...

I just put MBUS on my rifle and they work just as well as the standard sights. If you plan to put any sort of optic then you should really just get the MBUS as you will not use them that often anyways. The folding feature makes storage way easier also. I dig them. I got mine off Gun Broker for $99.00 off some guys. A lot of places are out of stock on the rear as it is the best bang for the buck at the moment.

I don't like the stock sights on the 15-22 so I took them off. I like the look of the MBUS on Phils Rifle. The MBUS seems like the perfect no-brainer for the 15-22.

The stock sights, front and back seem like junk.

The factory sights felt really cheap like they belong on an airsoft, just put a set of the Magpul's on my 15-22 and love them; it's also nice not having to co-witness with a red dot.

You should defiantly do the Appleseed, been to one myself and looking to do it again this fall.

the MBUS are great. I have the rear sights on my AR and have no complaints. Wont be using them too much now that I have an Eotech

I ordered my Magpul MBUS front and rear sights from Botach Defense. I got the front for $25.50 and the rear for $37.00 via membership pricing. Shipping was some $11.45.

I have ordered quite a bit of stuff from these folks. The membership is free . . . Simply sign up. They will consider individual memberships.

Yes, the OEM sights aren't very pretty.

My Troy fold down sights for my 15-22 were free!

How, you ask?

I took them off my S&W 15T and put them on the 15-22.

That's where the free part ends. I then bought some fancy LaRue Tactical Troy sights for the 15T.

That's how I justify stuff to my wife and it works some of the time. (I just need to keep her away from jewelry stores when I pull stuff like that)

e-mail I received yesterday.

"[ Phil,

Thank you for your inquiry. The new GEN 2 MBUS are about 0.52” thick from the top of the rail. They are due out sometime this spring, keep an eye on the website for updates.
