Funny story
Was at the range today testing out the ten round mag I made. Actually it's the Old # 7 mod. Well he was nice enough to give and send me a new spring cause mine was to short. Long story. Anyways I finished up my session and was done cleaning my rifle and was just getting ready to put it in its case when the range officer pulls up. He says are you a police officer? I said no why. He says you can't shoot that thing on the .22 range. I said it is a .22. And he says well it sure doesn't look like one. Still don't know what the police officer thing was all about.

If you were a police officer and it wasn't a .22, he probably would've let it slide.

yea, reminds me of an argument i had with one of our range officers a month or so ago. my wife, my daughter and i were shooting on the falling plate range and the RO comes over, looks at my wife and stammers "you can't shoot that here". i look up, point to the sign that says no centerfire rifle or magnum cartridges and read it for him. he reads it about three times and just isn't getting it. i explained to him it was a rimfire. after a few rounds of that and explaining that i had asked NUMEROUS times if i could shoot it on that range, he stammered off to his shack. later when i went to sign out he apologized stating he thought it was a .223. i accepted the apology gracefully thinking to myself if he is a RO, he should probably know this.

He's the one that walks downrange to change out targets while everyone else is still shooting, I think. He isn't there all the time though.

Why can't you shoot center fire on this range? I'm too cheap to pay to shoot and lucky enough to live out in the country.

if its like most rimfire ranges they use metal targets and a 223 will just blow threw them

if it was in reference to my comment it is centerfire rifle. as he said, the steel used is expensive but not rated for centerfire rifle.
so it either blows through them or dings them which can cause ricochets. they are only 15yds out so that can be dangerous

Thanks, now I understand. On the same note, I was amazed at the power of my neighbor's .22 mag rifle. Almost went through the regular .22 metal targets we were using. They were even puting serious hurt on my .44 targets. I'm thinken I might have to get one of this. We shot a wet pack of playing cards with it and my 9mm and it was incredible how much the bullet flared out by the time it exited. The 9mm round just punched right through. I imagine S&W would sell a boat load of these in a mag. version. Can you make something that would fire both mag and long rifle rounds? That would be a killer combo. Hum perhaps the wrong choice of words. Outstanding may be a better way to say it.
