There are tons of .22 suppressors. Major malfunction has good prices from what I've been able to find. Tac65 is $199 there and the Outback is $299. Definitely give them a call, they know their stuff. Also check out the Silencerco Sparrow (make sure it is the Silencerco there is another company with a "sparrow" that is not as good). It's $399, but top quality.

Yeh, I was all set to buy the Tac 65 but don't want to fuss with tearing it down to clean, which led me to stainless cans... Which got me looking at the SWR Spectre...

stainless has its advantages but it's usually heavier than aluminum models. Stainless is usually beneficial for rifles especially if they are auto.
I'm still leaning toward the tac65. I know everyone has a favorite, but check around for videos on youtube. some compare different brands, one compared a tac65 to opening a mountain dew can.

Yeh, I think the sound differences between most of the models available is going to be extremely hard to be heard by the human ear...
I'm looking for ease of ownership.. That includes cleaning, etc..
I've read about guys sending units back to be cleaned - what does that cost? $50 a pop? So I buy a $200 and clean it every what 5,000 rounds? Twice a year or so?
I dunno. I like being able to clean it myself..

I think they're all cleanable. From speaking to the guys at major malfunction the difference is that with lead build up it can become necessary to send in the sealed units. They didn't tell me the cost as it varies by manufacturer. the units that can be disasembled have an advantage in this area as you can take them apart and clean them out to prevent lead build up. However, he said if you religiously clean the sealed units you shouldn't have a problem either.
This is just relayed from what he told me, not first hand experience.
After talking to him I am definitely going with the type that can be disassembled. Even Gemtech came out with one like the Outback II that can be taken apart and cleaned. It's called the Gemtech Alpine and retails at $425 Gemtech Seahunter

Yeh, I'd like an easy clean though.. ![Wink](https://smith-wessonforum.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) Soak in some peroxide and vinegar for a few days and blow it clean sure beats sending it out for a $150 cleaning or having someone sand/bead blast it for me...

Sorry if i am bring this back from the dead.
but
I shot a AR-15 today with a Tactical Innovations Tac 65 on it.
Class 3 stamp. it vs my 15-22 without ear plugs. my 15-22 is louder. he was shooting .223 rounds.
it sounded and felt cool. Now that I have shot a AR-15 with a .223 round in it. I may not be buying one lol

The AR uses the Tac16. It's a much heavier construction to handle the larger load and full auto fire. Are you sure it wasn't the Tac16 ? reason is that it's larger and made to handle more internal pressure.

It very well might have been . I know it said Tac on it. I didn't see the number. He didn't have full auto stamp.

just got to drop my form 4 in the mail and the wait begins
you can get the free rerivew of the older checkmate on silencer research

I know YHM make a stainless Mite, but I've heard it's actually louder than the aluminum version. Not saying all stainless ones are , just that the YHM one is. On the good side they are definitely stroner. Have to look into the Checkmate

I know this is an old thread, but what do the extra QD's cost? And do they need to be installed by a gunsmith?
thanks
