brass deflector

I shoot left handed and I have not had a single round of hot brass hit me with my M&P 15-22. I don't think you are going to need the brass deflector. I also flipped the safety so that it sits on the right side of the rifle (both literally and figuratively) for me.

I actually had some brass hit my arm the last time I went to the range, so I was just wondering if anyone else has used one and how it worked with the 15-22

Adjust your grip so that you are holding the bottom of the hand guard and your problems will be solved. My son and I are both left handed. I've never had an issue, and the only time that he has is when is shooting off the bench...he is 8 years old.

I was shooting indoors a couple of weeks ago with my MOE15-22 when I had a nice HOT empty come out of the chamber, carom off the lane wall, arc up and back over towards my face and manage to lodge it's HOT little self between my wrap around shooting glasses and the lid of my left eye. By the time I safed my gun and whip off my glasses(no irony here;))the damage is done. The brass was still hot enough that it stuck to my skin, leaving 2 little blisters. A million to one incident but stuff happens.

So.... I made my own brass deflector out of, well, brass sheet stock that I had laying around. I painted it flat black and you can hardly see it.

It's simply about 1 3/4" wide and about 4" long. It comes down,45s out about 2 1/2" then 45s back parallel to the upper part. It's attached to the gun through an old junk scope mount cut off to clear the scope with a screw that sticks out over the chamber area. The deflector mounts up to that screw with a wing-nut for easy removal. You can still see into the chamber for making sure the gun is clear. They work great with all of the brass being deposited right on the bench next to me making cleaning up afterward easy. I've ran about 350 rounds through with no issues at all.

I'll post a pic here later. Takes about 1/2 hour or so and cost me less than $5.

Here's some pics. The one on the rifle is before paint, the pistol after and it's a little smaller.
