lol.. you said you answered you own question about scopes in the last scope thread you started . I think your up for the award for starting the most threads within a 2 week period of joining this forum lol. But all joking aside. I have heard alot of people say they love their Barska. It all boils down to personal prefernce. I have went through at least 5 different scopes my my .223 untill I finally settled on one that suited me and my personal needs.

As each weapon is tailored for a specific use for each different person. A person can and will give you what works good for them but it may not for you as well. Its happened to me and I'd say alot of other users her alot of times on diferent scopes, sights, etc.

Yea i answered my question on the specs but what do they mean at the range. I just don't want to get something that the general consensus is garbage. Like the first red dot i was considering, lol.

I'm going to do alot more range/target shooting and haven't found one local over 50yrd. Considering the ones i posted am i looking in the right direction?

ill_noiz, you can use both a red dot and a magnified scope. They can mount on your rifle at the same time. I have a BSA 3-9X42 illuminated reticule and the 20mm red dot. They work very well together. All you do is lift your head a little and you go from the scope to the red dot. Takes all of about 10 rounds to figure out.

You will buy a couple of optics for your gun before you figure it out. You can use the extras on the next rifle.

Welcome to the forum. I notice that you are looking at adjustable magnification scopes. I don't know what others have done but the last scope I bought was a Simmons 22 Magnum 4X fixed power scope. I don't play with the magnification much on a scope. So a fixed power scope works very well. When we are talking about scopes for .22's they have their parallax adjusted for 50 yards. Maybe something to consider unless you intend to be messing with the magnification all the time.
The Simmons has a quick twist focus which is great for my older eyes.
Your needs may be different.
The advantages of a scope are no batteries needed and you can see the target clearly.
Have fun with which ever way you decide to go.

Just what i was looking to hear. I understand most of the specs but i've yet to use a scope so i don't know how everything applies.

how do you like the illuminated reticule? How do you sight in the red dot

The scope is a target dot. So the center dot is lite up with red not the whole reticule. I sight in the red dot same as I do the scope. Point it until the dot is on the spot I hit.

The last number in the scopes specs(the 50 on the above), what are the advantages/disadvantages of a larger or smaller objective lens.

Larger objectives allow in more light, thus allowing for a better view.. basicly. I have one 8-32X50mm scope on a rifle with a AO( adjustible objective for the range.. yardage difference per target.. and I love it) But its overkill on a .22 by FAR.. as the scope is rated... now I may be wrong... but pretty sure that if I remember right, its rated at around 1k yards.

1k yards! if your hitting anything at that range i'll have to make sure i never make you mad and step foot in the same state, lol.

whats the average/good size for a scope, or sight.

LOL.. didnt say I hit anything.. or for that matter shot at that distance, just the scopes rating. But that post almost made my new Dell HD monitor get covered in a cold drink of coke lol. As I had just took the first drink as I was reading the post.. and was all I could do to not spit on the screen from lol'ing.

LOL! I'm loving this site more everyday. Sure it will get worse when i get the 15-22.

What are some ranges to stay in for the objectives. i saw some small one around 20mm. Or is this a bigger is better thing?
 
Kind of the bigger the lense is the more field of view you will have and the more light it will pick up... bad news is the larger the lense the further up you have to mount your optics from the centerline of the barrel which isn't a huge ordeal but the further they r mounted off there centerlines the more range will determin bullet impact... basiclyy if you mount a scope 4" center line to center line at 50 yds you will be dead on if that is your zero range but at 10yds it will be nearly 4" low

So for paper targets it's not that big of issue since i will not have to look for the target?
 
I didn't want to start a new thread about scopes and I think the discussion in here is close to my questions. I'm also looking for a good scope set up for my 15-22. I don't plan to shot this gun further than 100yds. I want a set up that will be good for both setups, more towards shorter distances but I want something tactical looking. The choices were between the NCStar Mark III or a red dot/magnifier setup. I'm having trouble deciding because the reviews are all over. I'm leaning away from the NCStar because of all the negative reviews. But the red dot/magnifiers seem to have low eye relief. Not sure where to go with the decision making.

1. Sightmark Ultra Reflex Sight + Sightmark 5x Magnifier
2. PA Micro Dot Gen3 + PA Deluxe 3x Magnifier
3. Fixed 4x Acog Clone

I want something decent but not breaking the bank. Thoughts would be appreciated.

Well.... I just happen to have a SightMark reflex, Primary Arms Micro Dot Gen3 with Kill Flash and a Primary Arms 4x with a ACOG like T reticle.

The Micro Dot is best for both eyes open shooting at soda cans and stuff that bounce around, plus it is very light. The 4x is better for precision shooting paper and picking off smaller stuff like soda pop tops. The SightMark doesn't do well in the Sun so it's in a box in the closet. If I had to pick one for general use it would be the 4x. I'm not a fan of separate magnifiers but lots of guys here use and like em.
 
Thanks for the input Phil. So you don't use a magnifier with the Gen3? Personally I'm not a fan of the PA 4x scope. I want something tactical looking. I don't want a longer scope like my rifle has. Thats part of the trouble here. The styles I like are often made by Barksa, and I'm not going to purchase one of those with all the reviews I've read.

Any experience with the Sightmark 1.5x5? Sightmark Tactical 1.5-5x30 Scope with Mil Dot Reticle [SM13015] - $159.99 : Sightmark

The only 4x scope I find are NcStar and AMP. Never heard of AMP. Not sure how these would be. I assume the NcStar is the same as the 3x9x42 scope as it may not be top quality.

There are also good reviews on the Burris Timberline 2x7x26 scope. Not as tactical looking but is shorter and doesn't look too bad on the ar platform.

You're probably looking at the PA 1-4x. I have the Primary Arms Compact 4x. See below pic. Primary Arms is working on a Gen2 and don't sell that version any longer but Sig Sauer sells the same thing (absent the rails) for their Sig522. They call it the Sig CP1 Prismatic scope. It it currently at a 50% discount directly from Sig. It has a fantastic mirco fine T reticle. Someone just posted the other day that they bought it and said it's just like the PA. Here is a link. Wow that Sig CP1 is really nice....and for that price...That could be a winner. But doesn't offer any room for a reflex or something for close range shooting....Is there another way to mount a red dot or reflex for close range too? Maybe should just get a simple laser for close range...
