I would like your advise, I'm a bit overwhelmed with options. I want to change the scope & mount for my 15-22 without breaking the bank. Right now I've got high mount 4X scope on it. I mostly use it for target and plinking, but also an occaisonal backyard varmit or even coyote. Likely range; I'm guessing out to 100 to 150 yards? I worry about using lighted optics because the last thing I want it to grab it out of the case to shoot a coyote and find out the battery's dead. But I may go with one anyway.

So, here are some options I've been looking at:

Leapers UTG 3-9x32 Compact CQB Bug Buster Rifle Scope w/ Rings & Sunshade FREE S&H SCP-M392AOLWQ. Leapers UTG Rifle Scopes, Leapers Rifle Scopes.

Amazon.com: Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9 x 40 Black Matte Riflescope (BDC 150): Sports & Outdoors

Amazon.com: Nikon ProStaff 2-7 x 32 Black Matte Riflescope (Nikoplex): Sports & Outdoors

I really would like input into how to mount optics too.

Thanks!

I like the Nikon scopes and have 2 different models - P22 on my 15-22 and Prostaff 3-9x40 on my 10/22.

Both are good scopes and work well for target shooting up to 100 yards and for squirrels and rabbits-usually around 50 yards.

A friend has a nice Mueller scope on his 25-06 and it is a fine scope, especially for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one in the future.

I used the Nikon one piece cantilever mount on my 15-22. I think the model is M22 or M223. I used UTG QD rings on my Ruger.

I wouldn't shoot at coyotes with either of my 22s.

Hi Dadman,
I use the Nikon ProStaff and love it. The magnification is very clear. The BDC system works well at 100 yds but you have to know how the ammo you are using responds...the different brands do not respond the same so it is a learning curve. But at 50 yds it is a hole filler. It also holds zero great. No movement at all but I'm not running around, banging it, etc.

I use the riser, seen in photo. I works just fine but looks a bit clunky compared to other offerings. It is less expensive than other offerings. Perhaps a bit overkill for the 15-22.

I prefer the 3-9 because of the magnification. I also prefer the 40mm because of the light gathering. I'm also a fan of the Nikon glass.
I've never looked through the Leapers but it is a very nice looking scope and has great reviews.

Good luck and let us know what you choose and how you set it up and like it.

I have a lighted reticle scope, a Kaspa Tactical 2.5x10x50 on my LR308. Don't see a problem with a dead battery as the reticle is still there like normal with the light off, so a dead battery really just makes it like I shoot it 99% of the time anyway.
I have a Bushnell 3x9x40 on one of my 15-22s.

IMHO I think a .22 is too light for a coyote, if I had to shoot one I'd like a solid guaranteed more humane quick kill. Around my parts I've only ever seen them on my game cams in the wee hours or along a road already dead from a vehicle strike.

I have both Nikon scopes on my 1522's. I have 2 prostaff 3x9x40 on 2 of my guns- one of which is the one my son shoots. I just bought the p22 scope for the third 1522. I am changing the mount on one prostaff scope to the m223 base with integral rings. I am mounting the p22 scope using the m223 base with integral rings. My son's m&p scope is mounted using the p223 base with integral rings. I really like that base. The p223 base costs $49 but is on backorder from cabelas. I ordered the m223 base because it was $79. Those usually run $ 99. I honestly like both scopes. The 3x9 has more magnification which is great for my tired eyes. The p22 scope only has a 2x7 and it costs more than the other scope. All of my scopes have the bdc reticle. The two prostaff 3x9's are minute of squirrel accurate out to 100 yards. The 3x9s are cheaper and I really like the p223 mounts. That is my opinion- and my opinion alone for whatever that is worth.
