Well I took my new plinker to the local range this friday and shot 100 round of cci minimag, not one issue with it. The night before i stopped to pick up a winchester 555 bulk pack from walmart as i saw many members here had no issues. First 3 mags went flawless, but after that all hell broke loose. I was having 10 to 15 problems per mag..... all failures to feeds. i would say one out of every 2-3 bullets wouldn't fire. Before i fired this gun i cleaned and lubed it. I do have the blue spring. So i dont know if I got a bad pack or what? Anyways When i had rented this same rifle at the range and was forced to only cci minimags, I never had any issues ever. So this upcoming friday im gonna buy 3 or 4 packs of cci to see what happens...

sorry to hear i was really hoping the 555 would be a great value. CCI seems to be the most reliable of the choices available so that can explain alot. although it seems odd there were no problems the first couple mags, did you check everything else? sounds like the misfires could have been the side effect of another problem

Did you go back to minimags to see if the problem presisted with that ammo as well?

unfortunately we closed down the range that night, so I didnt have a chance to fire anymore CCI, I have since cleaned the gun, but this following weekend, I am going to buy 4 or 5 packs of cci mini mags, to see if they fire flawless. Or I might try to use the rest of the 555 first and see how they run and as soon as i have problems switch back to cci, while the gun is dirty and see if they fire or not. When I pulled the gun apart everything seemed fine. I dont know how dirty these get after 400 rounds So I am not sure if that had anything to do with it. Bolt was pretty black... First gun so im not sure. I did however have a friend that is in the usmc look at the gun to make sure it was cleaned and lubed properly as i followed brett's instructional video and he had said everything looked peachy.

555

I took a brick of 555's out on Friday. They ran flawless through the 15-22. I fired about 50 of the rounds through my S&W 22A, with one FTF. Not bad, really its pretty good concidering the reliability of the 22 round. Its been said on this forum many times... Find the one that works for you and stick with it. I have found that mine eats almost anything, with the exception of Remington Thunderbolts. Good Luck

I assume Winchester Super-X in the "333" packs is the same? Been nearly flawless thru most of a 3330 round case for me.

Of course you've not described your failures to feed in enough detail for us to help. Partial feeds? Magazine snags? What?

BTW, I aggressively polished the chamber in my DTM-series rifle. Have no idea if this helped or not but it's easy with some polishing compound, an M16 cleaning rod section and tip, and a cleaning patch. Spin it with an electric drill or similar.

I have used both the 333 box and the 555. I have had good luck with both but last time out it was damp out and I was getting a few FTEs. If I get a chance I might go out tomorrow and do some more "testing". I have some Super X HPs I will compare them to.

555's Not ejecting

Same problem of not ejecting (40% of the time) using Winchester 555. Could be the casings are not sized properly? And, I've still got 400 "Bad Loads."

Pistol Phoenix HP-22A oiled and cleaned 10 round clip

Using the Remington 22 LR I've had no problems.

I guess I'd better run a clip of the CCI Velocitor "emergency loads" through it to make sure it's working properly.

Wait for it.. some one will post that "he said clip" usual comment... oh to late lol. Which is usually followed by the picture of the cartoon rifle saying the same thing..lol

Well sorry for never responding back, but Since that first time at the range I have fired about 2500 cci mini mags, pretty much flawless, the problem with what i was having with the Winchesters, is failure to eject. With the occasional magazine snag, but mainly Failure to ejects. I have cleaned the rifle every time Ive gone out. Last night I put about 200 + federal 550 bulk pack through and that was the most frustrating yet. Every other round wouldn't eject. It got to the point where i was just putting a bullet in per mag...lol So then I thought well maybe something is wrong with the gun. Started questioning if i damaged the ejector when i was cleaning the gun.. So I went to the front of the range and bought 3 100 packs of cci mini mag. Only one failure to eject. I did 2 clips rapid fire. Not a hiccup. So it seems as if my particular rifle only likes CCI mini mags... Im such a cheap ass. I was really hoping these bulk packs would do the trick, cause when i go out with this thing i never want to stop shooting it..

have you ever noticed the bolt not holding open on the last round with the CCI?

Sorry I'm about a week late... ;)

(Right out of PM Magazine.)

If anyone has a source for .22LR clips let me know. I tried these and they don't work.

I've had no problems with the Winchester 555's, only 2 magazine snags and 2 ftf's which fired on 2nd round. I've got a DVA serial #, I don't know if that has any effect. Also fired 100 CCI without any problems. I am very careful about how I load my magazine that may also make a difference. I hope you find some good ammo for your rifle.

P.S. That was the longest 10 days of my life.

ill take more time and load the mags slower and more careful, see if it helps any. Also I took a ride out to the Cabelas in Indiana and they had a cci tactical .22lr im going to give it a shot its cheaper than cci mini mag. We shall see

Rifle:M&P 15-22 with a Burris 2-7x & Burris FastFire, timney trigger.
Pistol:Riger Mk3 Tactical Solutoins barrel, Volq trigger/hammer/titanium dics, etc. C-More red dot with 8moa dot. Keep in mind at 15yards that is almost 2".

Ammo test of 6 different types of ammo. I have currently been using Federal 510 40gr for all my matches and practice.

I will now be using Winchester SuperX(brass stamp) 36gr. Cheap stuff at walmart called Win 333 or 555 box. (bought 8 boxes today, and 3 cases coming!)

Ammo tested:
1. Winchester 36gr 333/555 - Best of the 6
2. CCI Blazer 40gr - almost as good as the Win333/555 but slightly more spread out.
3. Federal AutoMatch 40gr- Almost the same as Blazer.
4.CCI Target 40gr - pretty good but not cheap bulk ammo. Similar groups to the Win.
5.Federal Champion Lightning 510 40gr - Not that great as shown.
6.Federal 36gr red box from wally world - sucked really bad. 2x the group size in every direction. Looked like a shot gun.
