Federal Bulk vs CCI Blazer
Looking for a new bulk ammo. I've been shooting alot of Federal Bulk, but lately not happy with their performance (inconsistent loads about 25%). From this forum and online research it looks like CCI Blazers are a good cheap alternative and cycle fine with the 15-22. Unfortunately I can't find any locally and to get the best deal online would need to buy a case. Found them for $150/5000 which is comparable to what I pay for Federal Bulk at Walmart.
Has anyone shot both and could give omparisons on consistency of loads and accuracy at 50 yds.

I actually plan on going to the range today and was going to do some more playing with Win 333 bulk vs the Federal Bulk. I'll stop by a few of my local gun shops before I hit the freeway and see if they have some Blazers. If they do I'll buy some and try to get some groups at 25 50 and 100.

I've shot both in my S&W 22A pistol. The Fed bulk is 36gr plated HP, the Blazers are 40gr lead RN. Ability to fire each on this platform has been the same. The edge goes to Blazer for consistency and accuracy IMHO. I get the Blazer at a local gun shop, and it is available at gun shows on a regular basis. One thing to remember with the Blazer is that you'll get more lead deposits with these rounds compared to the plated rounds, would require a bore snake a little more often.
I take delivery of my 15-22 Thursday, and plan on cleaning it and doing a 500 round initial test in a single range sitting. 200 CCI mini mags (36gr HP) followed by 100 rounds CCI mini mag (40gr RN), followed by 100 rounds Fed Bulk, followed by 100 rounds Federal Lightning from Walmart (40gr LRN). I'll be keeping an eye on accuracy/consistency and feed/ejection related issues. At $1.47 a box for the Lightning, it doesn't get any cheaper than this from an ammo standpoint.

Have you looked at CCI minimags? In bulk they are reasonably priced

Hey Cajun,
FYI - Gander Mountain currently has 500 round bricks of CCI minimags on sale for $29.99 and you can get free shipping.
I haven't run Federal bulk through my rifle yet, but I have run Blazers through it (about 300 rounds of Blazers) and haven't had any failures yet.

I have used both in my 15-22 and can tell you from my own personal experience that the CCI Blazer is far more consistent than the Federal bulk. The Federal bulk would stovepipe among other things about once every five shots. The Blazer bulk pack has given me nothing but a great time. Others have had good results from the Federals but the Blazers or anything else from CCI seem to work fine at a far more consistent rate. This is just my results. Oh yeah, the Blazers are pretty accurate as well. Try them, I think you'll like them.

I live in Missouri and go past MidwayUSA a couple times a week. I've never used their "pickup" option before but I saved about $15 on shipping the case of MiniMags I just ordered.
It appears I can avoid the hassle of having someone sign for ammo shipped to one's house--is a signature required or will it be dropped if you go that way?
I guess it's all a wash--I avoided the shipping but have to pay the tax. It ended up being $2 cheaper than Gander Mountain's deal but no shipping problems.

CCI Blazer was $16.99/500 at Sportsman WH. Went through a couple hundred at the range. No cycling problems. I didn't shoot on paper with the 1522 but it had a consistent report (unlike Fed Bulk). I'd say it's a good replacement for Fed Bulk unless you want copper plate.

Thanks. That's a very good deal, especially if you're close enough to pick it up.

Thanks all. I have a case of 5,000 Blazers on the way from Glens. $149.90 plus $21.95 shipping = 171.85/5000 = $.034 per shot which is about half the price of the minimags. I shoot a lot (@25,000) so far this year so the price per shot is important to me.

Is the Federal Champion from Glens the same as the Walmart Federal? I prefer a plated round vs full lead.

Based on my comparison of the Fed 525 pack of plated hollow points (HP's) and the Walmart Fed 550 pack of plated HP's, I'd say yes they are identical. Other than the lot number, load number, and box color (blue vs brown), they both have identical information on the entire box and look and shoot the same. I would think the same is true for the round nose.

I picked up my case of MiniMags from MidwayUSA today. It was not an ordeal at all-- I walked into the "customer pickup" door and told the kid who I was. He found my package and I was out the door--probably less than a minute from walking in.

Mini-mags work the best out of my DTX-XXXX. I have a 500 rd box of Blazer, leaded round nose that works pretty consistently. Also noticed that the Winchester 333 pack from Wal-Mart works better than the Federal bulk pack. In one of my early posts, I mentioned that the Remington Golden Bullet was pretty inconsistent, but I have noticed that a newer box of this ammo was comparable to the performance of the Mini-Mag. Anyone else notice this? My 15-22 has had a few FTE's early on, but now that I have gone over 10K rounds, it runs just about anything.

I have around 1500 rounds on my DUR.
Just had my first three malfunctions...three failure to fires with newly purchased box of Fed Bulk from Wally World. All Fed Bulk previous and CCI MM's have been flawless.

I shoot both CCI and Federal bulk pack through my 15-22 and have never had any malfunction of any kind with either one. I've probably put 4000 rds. of so through the gun using these two brands of ammo.

No Federal bulk for me
CCI Minimags work the best through my DUU-XXXX. I've got about 1350 rounds through it now, and don't have any problems rapid-firing an entire magazine of CCIs.
This stuff, however:
turns my rifle into a Jam-O-Matic(tm), with stovepipes and other FTE every 2-3 rounds, even while firing slowly.

Switched from Fed bulk to Blazers a month ago and have not looked back. The Blazers are extremely consistent and I've had zero problems with over 2,000 rounds fired.

I tried the federal from wallyworld and it looked like a shotgun pattern. Winchester 333/555 were the best with blazer right behind.

I've been shooting Remington golden bullets thru my AA Glock conversion kit. My wife shoots CCI Mini Mags thru her Buckmark. We switched ammo this week to see the difference. The CCI round is cleaner with tighter groups. The Rem's are dirtier by far. The smoke alone is reason to switch over to the Mini Mags since we shoot in doors & the smoke seems to linger. I've got 1500 Golden Bullets to shoot then it's CCI for me...

Have you had a chance to shoot any of the CCI Blazer 5k bulk yet? I see there are quite a few of the 5k cases of it on gunbroker and I am getting pretty tempted to order some. I shot a couple boxes of 50 of the Blazers with excellent results.

Rattles, the CCI value packs are identical to the boxes of 50. I shoot them almost excusively in my 15-22 and 22A without problems. If you've shot the boxes of 50 without issue, don't hesitate to get the 5K from gunbroker if your planning on buying that much.

CCI makes the best rimfire ammo; Blazers are good, pretty clean ammo. Locally I get them at Dunhams sporting goods for $1.99 per 50

I've run 2,000 through with ZERO issues (except dirty fingers from loading the ammo). Highly recommend!

I've found the CCI Blazers to be exceptionally good ammunition, just like the Mini-Mags. Clean and more importantly, consistent. Thousands of rounds fired and I honestly can't remember any failure-to-anything's with them. I've shot many times more of the Federal bulk ammo, but I've found them to be noticeably less consistent... a fair number of "less enthusiastic" discharges. I'm happy to spend a bit more for the CCI and delighted when there's a sale someplace

My buddy stopped by so we went out and ran about 300 rounds through the gun. It was some Winchester bulk, Federal 40 grain (got it cheap at Dunhams also) and the Blazers. The blazers had the least stovepipes but they all did it for some reason. The gun was cleaned thoroughly prior to.
I think I will give S&W a call tomorrow. It was better for a bit but it got bad again and I am getting tired of it..

I just hit a deal on some Winchester 555 bulk. The local Meijer dept. store had them for $19.99. The clerk told me there was a $5.00 off coupon in the front of the store I could use on it too. Needless to say, I made another trip in after I dropped off my first shopping items and got another. 2 for under $30.00. I couldn't go wrong.

Guess I should have read this ammo thread before.
Picked up my 15-22 today and grabbed a 525 pack of Rem Golden Bullets cause the Fed 550 pack I have shoot poorly out of my Buckmark and Rem 597.
I get home and read the owners manual and it says they do not recommend;Rem Golden Bullet,Rem Target22,Rem Thunder Bolt and Win Wildcat.
Maybe they will shoot in my 597?
Back to the store for some CCI's so I can shoot this thing .

I would at least try the Rems before you give up on them. Many folks have used them successfully. In the future, you can try a different brand, but at least try what you got.

I tried a few of those rounds since I had run out of Blazer at the range, they were my cousin's. Had one fail to fire out of 20 rounds but I had a few of those because the front of the bolt was caked.

I've shot thousands of rounds of Blazers and Mini-Mags. I've shot a box of 500 Rem Golden Bullets. Here are my thoughts:
Rem Golden Bullets worked well in my AA 22LR Glock 19 conversion kit. They are a MESS to handle though. Your hands get dirty from the residue that the bullets are covered in. I did not shoot them in the 15-22.
CCI Blazers: Shot thousands of rounds in the 15-22 and 22A. Great round, no misfires, no FTE. BUT, it severely fouls the barrel. If you are shooting a couple of hundred you wont notice it. But we go through a couple of hundred rounds in 10 minutes and the fouling is intense. You can tell when it is fouled as you have no clue where the bullet is hitting; and this is with an extremely accurate Eotech scope.
Mini-Mag: Definitely the best I have shot thus far. The copper coated bullet keeps the barrel clean. Consistent shots, no misfires, no FTE's.
In terms of price, I constantly scour the internet for the best deals. Right now, PalmettoStateArmory.com has the best price on CCI Blazers at $14.99 per 525 box. Cheapest Mini Mags are found at wholesalehunter.com at $5.20 per 100.

Yeah, I think they went through reorganization. A year or so ago
the gun racks were bare. I noticed today they have their own brand .22lr. $14.99/500. I think I'll try some.

It took me 2 months but I finished off the case of Blazers this weekend. 5,000 flawless rounds, with zero issues except dirty fingers from loading the mags. Unlike my bad experience with Fed bulk, every round was consistent. Tried to re-order another case from Glen's but they were out. Sportmans warehouse has them for a $1 more per box but with no shipping so placed my order today.

in over 30 years of shooting the fed bulk ammo i have found if your gun dont like it just find ammo it will like. myself if i buy a gun that wont shoot the fed ammo i either fix the gun or sell it,IMO fed bulk is the best for the money

Federal ammunition works well for me, even in slide fire mode.

This is what I have used sice I got my rifle a few months back. After my first mag which I did not follow the instructions and load properly, I have had no issues whatsoever.
