There are three components of accuracy: Ammo, Rifle, Shooter.
The only way to accuracy test ammunition with your rifle is to take YOU out of the mix. This means a rock solid shooting bench. Clamped in a large vice would be best. Some ammo will shoot better in your rifle than it does in mine.
You also need ammo that feeds reliably. This may not be the ammo that shoots the tightest groups.
Once you find ammo with acceptable accuracy that feeds reliably zero for your normal shooting range. The M&P15-22 will battlesight nicely at 50 yards and hit nicely at all ranges out to 75 yards.
When zeroing adjust the sights, not the

Unlike the M16/M4 you're probably going to have to adjust the rear sight for elevation.
