Default 15 Minute Trigger Job

So I decided to try the 30 minute "15 minute trigger job" fully expecting to end up with an excuse for buying a proper trigger/or spring replacement... Read the the instructions listed below and watched Brett248vista's videos on removal and replacement

15 Minute Practical Trigger Job for the AR-15

End result? While I haven't live fired it yet or done a true LB pressure test, I ended up with an AMAZING 3.5 +/- trigger pull that is as smooth as i could ever ask for and has literally NO trigger creep!!

Didn't do any of the polish work mention on the sight and while I cut minimal off the hammer spring at first, after i watched Brett's video where he mentions it I realized it really doesn't matter and went with the 1/4" cut. For bending the trigger spring I just placed it on the printout of instructions and tried to follow the same angle.

1) have no idea if these results are typical or not but can't explain how happy I am 2) wouldn't have even have experimented with it if it affected the "safe" aspects of the trigger

While this might not be a great mod to try I'm pretty sure it will be awhile till I even think about a true trigger upgrade!

And you measured this trigger pull how?

Are you sure what you measured is actual trigger pull and not just the absence of what your calling "creep" ?

I compared it to 2 other rifles that have 3.5 lb trigger pulls using my finger.

And usually when you pull the trigger and hear click...it's safe to assume it has fired

Use what ever word you want... I no longer have single stage trigger that tries to act like a ****ty 2 stage

Took it out for some shooting today. Long story short crisp pulls and cut my 60 yd groups down by 1/4 to 1/2" respective to ammo.

Only worry at this point, I did have 4 or 5 soft primer strikes on the Winchester sub-sonics. Can't comment more because haven't shot this ammo much (has turned out the most accurate groups every time tho). Is it because the decreased hammer spring pressure? I would have to guess and say yes. A little frustrating? Yes but for me, doesn't outweigh the increased trigger performance at this point. No problems with the WV or CCI green tag. All in all I'm happy at this point

I did the "15 Minute Trigger Job" 18 months ago (also without messing with the sear). Worked wonderfully.

Tried the "JP Yellow Spring" change a bit later ($10) and found no practical difference. The JP springs are still there merely because of the inconvenience of swapping them out again.

My 15/22 did not take kindly to the trigger job with at least five light strikes or FTFs per mag on CCI mini and Fed Bulk. Ordered the JP spring kit and no more issues thus far. I did the trigger job perfectly I might add.Good luck.

Props for taking the initiative anyways. Completely understand if people don't want to try but hey if nothing else this little tweak will help you familiarize yourself with the gun and better understand how the AR trigger group works. Did for me anyhow!

I know there's a lot of smart AR guys out there and would love to hear a more technical analysis of how the length of cut/bend of trigger spring effects the pull/hammer pressure? And yes I can figure the basics of why this mod does what it does but how does each variable reflect on results? I would think a longer cut on hammer spring might induce a little but more drag/pressure...dunno. Also was wondering what would happen if ONLY the trigger spring was bent? Maybe too short of a pull to be safe?

All in all I think this is a great mod for those who just want experiment and have money to spend if it doesn't work as well as more guns to shoot while you wait for spare parts

Bad luck for me. I did the 15 minute trigger job and when at the range I had all FTF. Tried about 10 different rounds. So once i got back home I tried bending the hammer spring to apply more pressure to the hammer. I got it to fire 50% of the rounds but it will NOT cycle properly. And by that I mean the hammer just doesn't quite reach the reset after each shot.

Not sure what I messed up. I trimmed the hammer spring according to the Trigger job paper. I'm assuming maybe the hammer spring on the 15-22 isn't strong enough for trimming one leg down. But if other people are having success then I really don't know. LOL.

I have the JP springs on the way so I should have mine back running next weekend.

well I decided to do the trigger job. With the Directions didnt take any time at all. It only took a little longer because i wanted to clean the fire group.

Well I went to the Range today and First 50-70 rounds went flawless shooting the Federal bulk. So i decided to change to CCI blazers and got FTFire once every three rounds I thought it was a little wierd so I ran another 10 federal through. No problems. went back to the Blazers and once every 2-3 rounds and I put about thirty through. So from there I went to mini mags first 10 went through fine then FTFire twice in a ten round mag.

Anyone having any issues like this. Any suggestions. I bent the one spring that was cut a 1/4 inch to push a little against the rifle. Haven't tried that firing yet.

I had at least 6 FTFs with Fed Bulk and CCI mini per mag after doing the "15 minute to FTF trigger job". Did the job to the exact specs and my 15/22 hated it along with the trigger man. Ordered the JP Springs and all is well now.

I just put the JP springs in and polished the sear surfaces, it hs a great feel when shooting side by side with a stock 15/22 but with the new springs I had one FTF with every mag. We were shooting speed contests and having to clear that one round was killing me on time. I think Im going to put the stock springs back in. The new feel of the trigger was great but the FTF is not worth the trade off. On a side note, I ran the failed rounds through my Rem. Speedmaster and they all fired fine, so my conclusion was too light of primer strike...any thoughts?

I put the JP springs in my new 15-22. I ran over 1600 rounds through it last weekend with not one FTF. I had one FTE, but that was from a mag that someone else loaded. I shot CCI Stingers,Fed bulk pack,Blazers. I couldn't be happier with this gun. I did polish internals as well.

I have polished my sear slightly and trigger too. I'm hoping the JP springs will cure my issues. But after reading above I'll order the stock parts just in case.

The only thing I can think is that the trigger pins were not seated correctly or the hammer springs didnt lock into the notches on the trigger pin - this cn cause the trigger pins to move - especially with stingers - and cause the hammer to hit the firing pin slightly off center.

The other thing I have experienced is with brand new mags - load them with one less round than capacity until the mag has loosened a little - I had lots of problems with this too.

Hope this helps.
