Greeting's. This is my first time here, and I wanted to say "Hi" and ask you a question. I did not see this posted, so if it is,please point me in the right direction and I'll go there. I have 2 early M&P 15-22's and both will double fire...occassionally. Usually it will be the first shot. This is relatively new and did not do this throughout the first year. I have put several thousand rounds through both. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what was the solution?

Thanks,

Richard

Any gun that doubles (fires more than one round) with one pull of the trigger is
1. dangersous
2. illegal

Suggest you contact S&W customer service immediately and do not fire the gun until it is returned for repair.

Do you mean double feed?

Afternoon Richard

Your problem is not unheard of especially on the early 15-22's.

If you call S&W they will send you a return label to send it back so they can repair it free of charge.

Maybe before you send it back--

Two major reasons a blow back operated 22 doubles or triples is a sticking firing pin that isn't retracting correctly. When the bolt slams forward with an extended firing pin it can fire the round it is carrying forward. That can also cause a dangerous out of battery firing. SO, make sure your firing pin isn't all gummed up & is free to move in the bolt. The problem only on first couple of rounds sort of points here.

Next, is a slipping sear to hammer catch or failing primary trigger sear notch that catches the hammer just long enough to allow the bolt to start forward then an instant later releases the hammer & allows it to hit the firing pin as the bolt is closing. If any trigger work has been done or a set screw added to shorten the trigger creep you might start looking in that area.

As stated above, check your bolt and firing pin, clean and make sure it is free and moves. As the full size AR15 has a floating firing pin, it does slam forward striking the primer when cycling a round forward, but not enough to ignite it, something the Bushmaster ACR is having issues with (bump fire). If it does it again, S&W needs to fix this. They have great customer service.. Good luck.

Mine did this and I sended it back to S&W. they installed the blue springs, it fixed the problem.

+1. You are currently in possession of a NFA (Class 3) weapon (admittedly, due to a mechanical failure). If you don't make an active effort to contact S&W and send it in for repair, and continue to use it, you are committing a felony. :(

All it takes is some Soccer Mom to report you and you gots big trouble.

I did in fact have that same problem with mine, its an early model DTU. At first I thought I was crazy but once it spit 4 or 5 out and it was obvious something was wrong, I figured I would shoot the last couple shot and KABOOM, she fired out of battery and had to be sent to S&W for repair. Knowing what I know today I would have sent it back at the first suspicion of trouble. S&W did fix her up and now I think I may have one of the most reliable and accurate 15-22's out there. I have shot a few and NONE come even close to the accuracy of mine. I hope this is helpful :-) Good luck my friend.
