I want to purchase the M&P 15-22 but the stock still seems much too short for me even in the extended position. Is there any way to replace it with a longer adjustable stock as I want my wife to be able to use the gun as well as myself. She seemed fine in the extended position but I am 6'4" and it just seem way too short for me.

All the other features seem to put is way ahead of the other 22 semi-automatic rifles. I especially like the easy breakdown and I love the quality of my S&W 617.

Thanks for any advise. :)

Im not sure how much you need it extended (do you know how to check for your length of pull?) Magpul makes some extended rubber butt pads for their MOE and CRT stocks. That would give you another .7"

You can put aftermarket stocks on the 15-22, just make sure they are "mil-spec" diameter so they fit the tube properly. Most aftermarket stocks are longer than the standard USGI M4 style stock. Look into Vltor and Magpul, they make multiple stocks with different lengths and are durable and as such pretty popular. From what I've seen in the AR15 market, the Vltor Imod and Emod are good picks as are the Magpul MOE and CTR stocks . As c7aea said, Magpul also makes extended rubber buttpads for their stocks which increase the length of pull an inch or so. They also make a couple other stocks which are even longer: STR, ACS, ACS-L, for which the extended buttpads also work.

One thing to think about is your shooting stance. Do you shoot with a more tactical stance where you're squared up against the target or more of a national match stance where you're sideways? A national match style stance will require a longer stock than a tactical stance.

Thanks. I am not sure how much longer I need to make it but you've given me the confidence that it can be done if (when) I buy the M&P 15-22. I was a bit hesistant when I got to handle one in the local gun shop, especially when I saw that the tube is not changable.

Given your answers, I was able to do a bit more intelegent research and find some more answers. I am new to the AR platform so that really helped. Thank you.

You may be surprised when you start shooting it and not want it longer anyway. I used to shoot with the stock fully extended, and now I prefer the nose to charging handle style and keep mine on the short to mid length when shooting

This is how the peep sights are meant to be used. Your nose should be kissing the charging handle so that your eye is close to the rear peep sight.

If you put a magnified scope on the rifle, you may need to adjust the LOP further out so that you get proper eye relief when the rifle is mounted.

The M&P15-22 stock is excessively long to start with, even longer than the real M4 Carbine or M16A2.

Note the "nose to charging handle" comments above. This is how we shoot the 5.56mm version. I consider my M&P15-22 a 3¢/round trainer for my full caliber rifle and shoot it the same way.

I've got a block fitted to my M4 to shorten the max length as the stock is really only used In or Out most of the time. Out is way too long. On the M&P15-22 I had to move the block in closer than the M4 due to the M&P's excessive length.
