empty mags don't drop freely from gun, have you noticed?
i haven't studied this problem yet, i'm just aware of it. but i'm wondering if it's due to the light weight of the mag, the shape of the mag - the feed lip protrusion, or the length/shape of the mag well on the gun - an ar mag won't fit in there. any thoughts?

I don't have a problem, either. If course, I wipe down the outside of every magazine before I reload it and the inside of the mag well, as well.

NO, AR mags don't fit because they are not the same size as a 15-22 mag. Why are you trying to put AR mags in your 15-22? It serves no purpose.

I typically whip it to the left as I'm reaching for my reload anyway, but even if I don't mine drop freely.

could be the release button is screwed on too tight causing the release to not clear completely. mine drop fine as well.
when you guys push the button does the release clear the other side of the receiver?

Check your mag release unit, it is screwed into the button, yours may be screw way to deep you have to press really hard and all the way down to clean the mag detent to drop.. My fellow Officer's M&P was just like that, he kept telling me his won't drop.. I think 3 turns to loosen it up did the trick... Good luck.

Still wondering why the OP is trying to fit an AR magazine in a 15-22.

As the rest I have no problems.
I do sort of 3-gun (ipsc) shoots with mine and every mag drops like a stone, so no problems. Even the short 10 rounders release fine.

Do you have a mag-well grip on it? Might be too tight and pinching it slightly.

I just want to know what kind of groups you are shooting with those 5.56 rounds out of her. If ppl are getting 2 and 3 inch groups at 900 yards with the .22 rounds Id say you are breaking sniping records! jokes jokes

aluminum mags don't stick in an ar15 but plastic mags stick in a 1522. what's up with that? lets see how an aluminum mag releases from the 1522. that was the logic behind that. then cleaning seemed reasonable as i don't clean guns. but that didn't do anything either. so i loosened the mag release by one turn, which makes a huge difference, and my mags are ejecting! who would have thought that they were dragging on the release? thanks

Not completely pushing in the mag release will generally have the same effect.
