hey there,
yesterday I bought a S&W MP 15-22 for a fun gun to mess around with.
I saw a couple of cheap scopes online and I was trying to figure out which one would be better. I'm not going into war or anything where my life will be depending on the scope. I just need one for target shooting.
so I would like your opinion on which scope would be better.

thank you in advance! :)

from the research ive done, bsa and barska are about the same entry level quality in scopes. taking a quick glance at their specs, the bsa has a larger diameter for basically more visibility through the scope and better eye-relief or how close you have to be to focus on it. also the knobs look a bit simpler to adjust but it is a bit heavier than the barska. if you're shooting with a bipod then i'd probably lean towards the bsa.

i havent purchased a bipod yet, but i found one online that i most likely will buy. i figured bsa and barska were about the same level, but i'm new to rifles and scopes and all that (since i mostly shoot handguns) so i wasn't 100% sure.
thank you for your input :)

I prefer the minty Scope myself.;)

Actually, the quality of the glass is dependent on your usage. If the scope doesn't hold zero or isn't visually clear and has a lot of parallax error, you can end up frustrated. I use a Bushnell scope on my 15-22 that works well and I use a Leupold 3.5x10 on my Sport. I use a Burris 8x32 mil-dot on my Rem. 700 .308. All provide the level of accuracy the guns can produce.
If you aren't worried about M.O.A. groups, at least get a scope that you can see clearly through.

Hobie

no worries, im new to them as well. i only picked up my 15-22 a couple months ago so ive been busy researching the forums and online stores lately.

For me since I used my M&P 15/22 for CQB, I had a Vortex SureFire Red Dot on top. But I wanted to be able to switch from CQB to 50-100 yards and the Red Dot was just not as accurate as i would of liked. In stepped the Leaper 1X-4X scope, it can be used up close and with a twist of the ring, it becomes a 4X scope for those longer shots. It also added some weight to a lite 15/22 which makes it feel like a full size.
It also has a nice cool factor to boot:

haha yeah i've been looking through the forums the past couple days as well. there's so much to learn about the 15-22 and I didn't realize it before. I'm having fun with it though, so I guess that's what matters! :)

also, thank you hobie1 and aceman58 for your input! :)

Amazon.com: BSA Sweet .22 3 - 9x40 mm Scope Matte Black: Sports & Outdoors

If you don't feel you need a tactical type scope the BSA works pretty well (I have one although I use it on one of my other .22 rifles). On both my 3-gun AR and my 15-22 I use the Firefield 1-6x24 which is the cheapest CQB scope with a first focal plane reticle. Firefield is one of Sightmark's house brands.

i'm starting to lean towards the BSA now haha
I'll have to check out that firefield one though!
thanks photoracer! :)
