Does anyone else have an issue with their magazine not holding the full compliment of 25 rounds?

While I don't own this particular weapon it is not unusual for a new mag spring to be stiff and not accept a full load. One of my Glock .40 mags, designed for 13, only holds 12 rounds. Once your mag is broken in it might accept the add'l two rounds.

This is the truth. Hand strength does make a difference as well. I'm not weak, but my friend who was a body builder has no trouble loading his to the max on new mags.

One time I disassembled a mag and when I put it back together ,I put the follower in upside down. This made the magazine only take 23 rounds. Hope this helps.

I just have the mag that came with the gun, and it takes 25. New mag, just got it in Jan.

It is definitely not a stiff spring issue. With the assist button it is easy to fill until it hits a hard stop. I wondered about the stagger, but I have loaded the single mag that I got with the gun five times. Every time it holds exactly 23 rounds. I may just give S&W a call. Maybe I can get a second mag at no cost and they will let me keep this one.

Have you tried taking the floor plate off to check for something in the bottom of the magazine?

What ammo you using? I don't have this problem with the 15-22, but my Colt pistol only takes 9 CCI Stingers in the 10 round magazine.....

All 12 of my mags took 25 rounds from day 1, and the springs in 15-22 mags aren't stiff (we're not talking Glock mags here :p).

When fully loaded, the load assist button should be in approximately the position shown:

If it's much further from the bottom, something's wrong.

Additionally, if you are trying to load with using just your thumb to pull the loading assist button down, that may be your problem. Rest the mag on something firm and use BOTH your thumb and forefinger to pull the button down.

Take the assist buttons out and use a golf tee to assist. LOTS easier. I just throw a tee in the box of ammo I am using

When you load you do not want to pull the load assist down more than 1 rounds worth. If you do and just drop the rounds in they will not stagger right and it won't fill to 25 rounds. 2 rounds with the rims lined up instead of staggered will cost you 1 round every time it happens.

I've got 8 25 rounders and all of them will load 25 rounds 95% of the time without issue. Occasionaly a couple of them are particulary picky about staggering w/ some ammo and will only want to load 24 but usually pulling down on the load assist slightly and giving the mag a gently tap on the back will set things straight and allow the 25th round to be loaded w/ a little bit of convincing.

No problem loading any of my mags since we went to the 7 round max here in New York...... no more sore fingers!
