I am new to the AR-15 world, my 15-22 is my first. I love it. A couple questions about sighting the 15-22 with iron sights. I currently am using the stock sights. What distance would you sight in at? What range would that cover?

As far as optics go, I am on a limited budget. My uses for this are mainly target/novelty/plinking and for small game hunting. My desire is for pinpoint accuracy over other uses (not looking to run and gun or stuff like that). Any suggestions in the $100 range? I realize the ideal suggestions might be beyond that, but $100 is reality, not ideal!

I sight my .22lr with iron sights in at 25 yards. You will be a little high at 50 yards, close to on at 75 yards, but it really drops before it gets to 100 yards.

The irons, with a .22 should be near zeroed at around 25m. This will set you up a little high at 50m, almost on at 75m and only a couple of inches low at 100m.

The 15-22 is not a precision rifle. It'll pull some pretty good groups, but it is a run and gun gun I'm afraid. If you want pin point you need a steel gun, either a bolt action or a 10-22.

I don't know of a $100 scope, but many people suggest the ~$75 Amazon.com: UTG 3-9x32 Compact CQB Bug Buster AO RGB Scope with Med. Picatinny Rings, 2" Sunshade: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/415TUy7w-kL.@@AMEPARAM@@415TUy7w-kL

My wife purchased my rifle & scope for a Christmas present. She got me a CenterPoint from Walmart for around $70-75.

I haven't tried it out yet or the rifle (slacker I know) but I read some pretty good reviews on the scope itself. I know the rifle is good because she had one first.

I figured coming from Walmart if the scope ends up not being any good I could always carry it back. Here is a link .

Great reviews :)

I'm thinking of scoping mine as well. Anyone have any thoughts on the BSA Sweet 22's? I like the idea of a scope designed specifically for 22LR.

I like the Sweet 22. I bought two of them and one had to be send back to be repaired ($10 to the manufacturer, plus shipping to get it there) because it wouldn't adjust enough to get on target. Once it came back (actually a new replacement I think) it has worked fine since. Bought them for ~$40 each a while back, and even with the replacement cost I think it was a decent deal. If you need it to work first time out of the box no matter what, you may not want to risk it, but when you get good one it seems to be pretty good.
