Anyone have experience with bullet boxes, like this one?

Amazon.com : Do-All Outdoors .22/.17 Bullet Box : Hunting Targets And Accessories : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/418DM114BJL.@@AMEPARAM@@418DM114BJL

Pros and cons?

BTW I live in a rural area where shooting in the backyard is the norm, so no worries about silly regulations and such... at least not yet. I just want to be as safe as possible and thought this might be a good option without building my own.

I've never heard it called a bullet "box" before. It's a bullet trap.

That said, I have one that I use for pellets. I've never tried it for powered ammunition. Just pay attention to the distance recommendations and you should be OK. Be prepared for the noise of the bullet hitting the backstop and rattling around inside. It is NOT quiet. :D

I have seen them at gun stores and big sporting goods places as well. I have one for pellets and BBs, but not .22

I live in the city. Have to go to the club to shoot a firearm. :(

I've seen them and assumed they were intended for .17 and .22 caliber pellets. The ones I've seen don't look like they would stand up to a .22 LR.

I agree "trap" is the more common term, but Amazon said "box " in the item description so I called it that here for reference sake. :)

Thanks for the info, I would be shooting at it from around 75-100 yards most likely so distance hopefully won't be an issue. I just want to make sure it should do what it is supposed to do.

My kids will like the extra noise I'm sure.

I actually have that same one and it works great. .22 bullets don't ding it at all (except for the paint) and it traps the bullets as advertised. Every bullet gets captured. Good product.

I should probably get one of these. I live in the city in an apt and I had a pellet gun to shoot pigeons with that I needed to sight in. So I got an old printer box with the stryafoam in it and put a cooking sheet behind it and then proceeded to shot at if from my hallway about 50 ft away. Well most of the pellets went thru all of it and into the drywall lol.

Pellet guns are often far more powerful that folks give them credit for. :)

For that price you could get a 5 gallon bucket with a locking lid and a bag or two of rubber mulch. Fill the bucket with the rubber mulch, close the lid, lay the bucket on its side, put target on the lid, shoot. Cover holes with tape, replace target, rinse, repeat. That will stop all .22 rounds and then some.

Got one in a basement. Hollow points beat the snot out of it. Ill post a pic lata

I have one. Use it when shooting paper targets at the barn. It holds up well against hollow-points, but gets dinged up when I shoot round-nose lead into it at 40 yards. The HPs splatter like crazy and hardly ever leave enough lead inside. Got mine at Wally, and it has taken at least 1,500 rounds without fail. They make them for larger calibers also. And the package it came it called it a "bullet box".

I hope you aren't shooting ammunition indoors. You are polluting your house and poisoning the people who live in it.

No lie there! Have you seen the FPS on some of them?! Some outdo our velocity by at least a couple hundred feet per second! Ralfie wont shoot his eye out he will blow his brains out haha.

Thanks for the info. Ordered from Amazon with free Prime shipping. Will "kick some brass" Saturday and see how she holds up. :D

Really? I thought you'd have more common sense then that. I hardly call a "cracked" window "ventilation". Every discharge of that firearm projects toxic particles into the air. Just look at the buildup at the muzzle. The amounts may be tiny, but lead accumulates in the body through inhalation and absorption. It will also get sucked in via the HVAC system and spread around to the rest of the house.

Of course no one has addressed what happens when you miss the backdrop or you get a ricochets. Bullet traps aren't 100%. The bullet trap will also cause some of the lead projectile to vaporize on impact, another source of lead dust into the air.

Your life I guess.
