New bill in california classifies ANY rifle with a mag as Assault Weapon, including rimfire.

Senate Bill 374 | Firearms Policy CoalitionFirearms Policy Coalition

  • Ban and forced registration of all semi-automatic rifles (including rimfire)
  • Requires gun owners to register every semi-automatic rifle, including rimfire.
  • Requires gun owners of existing semi-auto rifles to submit fingerprints and forms to DOJ, which will be tracked in a government database.
  • Bans sales and transfers of virtually all semi-automatic rifles after Jan 1, 2014
  • “Bullet button” and similarly “mag-locked” off-list (OLL) rifles would be considered banned “assault weapons”.

All the pro gun guys should move out of that state and then hope that an earthquake sucks it into the Pacific.

...because it's so easy to just pick up and move. About 2/3 of the state is not democrat/liberal, area-wise. It's just that the 1/3 of the state that is D/L, have the highest populations.

If this bill passes it will be the gun owner's fault for not getting it shot down. This bill goes beyond the pail, and that's being kind. It should have EVERY gun owner in CA joining the NRA, writing letters, and making calls.

I have several friends in CA are doing eveything they can to fight this. I suspect it doesn't matter. It'll pass, stuff like this always does in CA. If it does pass, I suspect there will be enormous "non-compliance" with the law. Unfortunately it means many of the newly banned items will spend the rest of their lives in closets, under beds, attics, and otherwise hidden away. Taking them out to use and enjoy would be risky or impossible.

I just left there 8 months ago and moved to Colorado. The intent was to provide a better life for my family, which it is... but I see all the signs of a gradual decline here into California Jr. Very discouraged.

According to FBI 2011 statistics as reported by CNBC during their AR15 special report program....

8,583 Firearm related homicides
323, fewer than 4%, were committed with rifles and only a portion of those were AR15. In fact, more Americans are killed each year by blunt objects than by semi-automatic rifles

I'm going to mount a "blunt object" under the flash suppressor of my AR-15 --- it ought to greatly increase the lethality of my rifle.

Ha ha ha, now that's funny. Being an ex-pat of California I feel for you. Look on the bright side, you could de-mill your semi-auto's and not have to register them. Using them as a blunt object appear to be more lethal. And, it gets better. You'll no longer have the problem of finding magazines and ammo. It's just a win win for everyone.

Sorry

I did learn something from that TV Special on the AR-15. "AR" stands for Armalite Rifle.

We could always use help from people in other states ;)

You can't help stupid. And the majority of the voting public in California are just stupid.
I grew up there, My mom was a life long citizen. Now that she is gone I intend to never set foot in that dump again.
The few Americans left are welcome in Arizona and Nevada. But if you are coming to Texas leave your stupid politics.

Normally I would whole heartedly agree, but not in this case.

We have a Democratic Governor, a Democratic majority in both the State Assembly and Senate.... the so called "super majority" free to enact whatever they want.

Even if every freaking gun owner did get off their collective rear ends and do the actions mentioned, the math doesn't look good at all when it comes to down legislative votes.

The state Republican legislators here may as well go on vacation as their votes are worth squat.

There is valuable lesson for people in other states to learn from our plight... DON'T GET COMPLACENT AND USE THAT BALLOT BOX.

Sorry, but that just does not work very well any longer, in the political environment we live in. Politicians are emboldened because they are not condemned, nor held accountable, for their insanities. You cannot count on the media for ANY help in reining them in. I live in Colorado, and many legislators are on the record for saying they ignore their constituents. You have to wait for the next election cycle and pray you can vote them out.

I've got plenty of canned email responses from our state legislators "thanking me for my input on these very important issues". Didn't do jack for all of us trying to block the legislation. Lip service is what it was. What does matter is that Colorado law enforcement is on our side, and we are hoping these laws can get overturned in the courts.

I left California 30 years ago when it was getting crazy. Then blamed Colorado for becoming another California. Looks like they just upped the ante.

Yeah, because Feinstein and Boxer give $0.02 about what I think (though, I still find joy in filling the inboxes of Obama, Biden, Boxer, Feinstein, Brown, Newsom and Harris several times per week). My Asm. and Rep. are both Pro-2A, and I still write them too!. If you have any input how we CA gun owners can get both Feinstein and Boxer (and the other Dems) to accept our input/opinion and really consider and act upon it, we'd love to hear it. The CA NRA lobbyists here can't get them to do that! Yeah, we have our own dedicated NRA lobbyists here, amongst many other very good 2A litigators. I just can't imagine they are doing their duty to us when all 11 of the gun control bills passed 5-2 in the Asm. of Public Safety. Just coincidence all 11 bills passed with the exact same amount of votes? I think not...

The Sheriff of my county joined in with the others around the country (and even in this state) and wrote a letter in disapproval of more gun control. The county supervisors took a public stand in support of the Second Amendment, and during one of their recent meetings, they approved a resolution stating “The Amador County Board of Supervisors supports the Second Amendment as being necessary for the security and freedom of the citizens of Amador County and the Nation.” My county is on-board. The only problem is: our population of 38,000 people is a bit small when compared to the 815,000 in San Francisco, and millions more in the other Dem/Liberal areas.

I will say though that regardless of my views and actions or those of the other members of my county or state, we will all prevail or fail together. Your attitude of "it's your fault, too bad" is not helping any gun owner.

"United we stand. Divided we fall."

I'll see your NRA membership requirement and raise you: I'm a member of the NRA, CCRKBA, CRPA, SAF and CGF. You?

I'm assuming "your stupid politics" is meant for the "stupid voting public" here in CA? ;)

This will be a court battle, along with the other 6 onerous bills that have passed the state senate. California's Assembly is 80 seats, and 54 of those are Democrats.

Out of over 20 letters and emails I've sent to the Senators involved, not one, not one single reply was ever replied-to. They don't care. I fear we are now down to the courts as the last resort.

Outsider looking in...

There does not seem to be a clear reason why this set of laws should not be applied to those in the CA legislative or executive branch (law enforcement, perhaps). Without demonstrable justification for why this (or other similar gun laws) should apply to a certain segment of the population, then they are discriminatory in nature.

Last I checked, laws that discriminated were illegal. Doesn't matter if it's race, color, religion, or "official" standing.

I feel for the folks in CA (and CT and NY and other states attempting to overreact). Perhaps courts are our only defense. The judicial branch is meant to keep the legislative and executive branch in check, after all. One has to hope that they are not corrupt or politically minded in their decisions.
