Default 15-22 flash suppressor

I am trying to remove the flash suppressor from my 15-22 but it won't budge. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do it without scratching up the barrel?

I took mine into a local Gander Mountain to remove it. The guy there even said it was a beast to loosen up! No way I was trying it myself. You would be best served to take it into a local gun shop.

My bet is that the assembler used red lock-tite (or something similar) on the threads, if so you will need to apply a hot flame to the FH to breakdown the red lock-tite.

Before you do any cranking on the flash hider, you MUST use a barrel vise or else you can wreck the upper. Also, once you get barrel secured, use the correct sized wrench, not a crescent wrench or pliers. Give the wrench a gentle rap with a small hammer going to the left, facing the muzzle end. It will come loose.
When you replace it later use a crush washer and tighten the f/h snug. Ta Da.

Be sure to use a large enough vise to get enough squeeze or the barrel could turn. Use the right barrel vise jaws (I think I know where you can get them) and never use any kind of thread lock on the muzzle threads. Use a new crush washer every time and you should never have a problem.
The wrench handle need to be pointing up.
