I'd like something a little more non-slip.

Yes, at least on the base guns' stock. It does help keep the butt from sliding on your shoulder.

I could be wrong here, but I think that the texture that is added to the rear of the standard butt stock is going to be better than some smooth rubber.
Are you having problems with the butt stock slipping while shooting?

I have the pad installed and it does stay planted on my shoulder better. Shooting steel matches I was having an issue with the butt not staying planted on my shoulder. The rubber is "grippier".

I got the CAA after installing a sling mount on the tube. It fits, clicks into the closest stop with the ring on it and comes with the pad. I like the extra storage on the stock also, like the brute look of the stock.

I've got the Mako stock on mine, GL216 or something like that. The rubber back plate on it pops down so you can put batteries and such inside, but really has a great tread pattern on it.
I've got the tan/fde version though with the riser (didn't need it, just came with it.)
I'm removing most of this Mako stuff to go back to Magpul, if anyone is interested.

I ordered one from Brownell's soon after my original post.
It came today.
Although I haven't shot the rifle with it on yet I like it already and
think it's going to do exactly what I was hoping.
Thanks to all for your replies!

You are going to need the 1" pad. The recoil is merciless. It will also keep the punishment from sliding down to your bicep.

To be honest, the stock is pretty damn nice. I don't like Mako's business practices, customer service is nearly the worst I've ever seen, and their colors don't match their own parts. 1 part in FTE will not mention other part in FBE from that company. They say it's impossible to match colors across their own parts, somehow Magpul pulls it off though.
So if anybody wants the above shown stock, unused magwell grip, and enough front rail covers for a 15-22, let me know.

My two grandsons' rifles are stock, buttstock-wise, but mine has MagPul's CTR with the .070 butt pad. I did it for looks, primarily, but I also like the feel.

0.70" maybe? Really doesn't matter, the stickier surface was what counted for me. Steel matches start low ready and it's nice having the butt not shift as you're swinging up into the first plate.
If I did want to spend $$ on cosmetic stuff I do like the CTR, simple, clean, no rattle. Too bad it doesn't have that "brute" look some cherish...

Yea, 0.70. Too many grandkids making noise to think straight.
I didn't like the feel of the OEM buttstock, but not shooting action matches made it somewhat a moot situation. I really do like the feel of the 0.70 buttpad though. It doesn't move at all when in place.

Hopefully this suggestion will work. Get yourself some of the rubber strips that nurses used to get a vein to stand up when they are going to draw blood. Use a bit of rubber cement to secure it to the buttplate. The rubber strip is easily trimmed w/ a common pair of scissors. It doesn't take a lot of the rubber cement to hold it on.
I've used this method to attach a rubber strip to the buttplate's of several rifles, mainly 1903, 1903-A3 and M-1 Garand. I also used it on a Kar-98. It really helps keep the rifle in place during recoil, etc. It is a wonderful aid when shooting prone and sitting. Sincerely. brucev.

Yea, the recoil is incredible, isn't it. Myself, I just shoot from the hip now. Smith should have figured out a way to make the 15-22 more user friendly.
Just so you know, at the first glance your photo really had me going, like, "really?" Great fun.
