I would like to switch my 15-22 to an M-4 clone. I have acquired the appropriate part and tools, But the barrel nut will not and I mean will not come loose. HELP !!!

You might want to explain what appropriate parts & tools you are using. Might assist someone in helping you.

Thank you for your quick responses. As for tools, I have a barrel nut removal tool and the Barrel Vise Jaws . I watched both videos, including the one from TacticalTominNC and from brett248vista. He said that he had trouble getting his nut off but never explained how he fixed the problem. I am afraid to crank it too hard, I don't want to damage anything. Any ideas?

A sharp smack might work better than trying to "crank" it. With a hammer (not a sledge hammer:D) give a light but sharp whack or two to break it loose.

Sound pretty tight, try what ChattanoogaPhil said and just make sure if the barrel starts to slip you don't try to hold it by the upper, just crank a little tighter on the vice.

Flood some Kroil down the barrel to get to the threads. Let it sit for 2 days. Apply more torque. It will come off.

Squirt some Kroil or Corrosion X on the barrel threads, slide the tool onto the barrel/barrel nut, put the barrel blocks on up tight against the tool to hold it engaged with the barrel nut, LEAN on the wrench.

did you acquire the rifle new, or is it a pre-owned rifle that is just new to you? if you got the rifle new, any of the documented barrel nut removal methods should work. if it was a pre-owned rifle, the previous owner "may" have used some sort of thread locking agent on the barrel nut, in which case you have your work cut out for you if you do not want to damage the upper receiver...probably the best method then would be to use an impact wrench with a special modified barrel nut tool.

I finally was able to break it free! I put a little bit of wd40 and gave the nut a wack, breaking it free. I have it together and will post pictures soon. Thank you everyone for all your help.

I had the exact same issue with my first 15-22. That Barrel nut was on there so hard i'm surprised they didn't crush the polymer when they attached it.

I used the barrel nut and vice jaws and it actually ROTATED THE BARREL IN THE VICE JAWS it was on so tight! Then it was just as ChattanoogaPhil said... instead of strong arming it off, I gave it a couple "taps" and sure enough, off it came. Luckily it didn't mess up the Barrel at all.

Glad you got it off! Can't wait to see the pictures.
