As was brought up in another thread recently, having the ability to preload some ammo tubes and quickly load magazines from them would be nice. It's something I suggested to Skunk when he was first designing the loader as well. Anyway, I made my own system for this. Here are a few pictures as well as a link to an album with more detail.

I used some tubing and caps from McMaster Carr and some nylon and steel spacers from Hillman.

I made tubes for 10, 15, 18, and 25 rounds. The 10 and 25 specifically for the 15-22, and the 15 and 18 for loading some tube fed Marlins that I have.

The tubing I used is 48" long. I scored it with a razor blade at the length I wanted, and broke it at the scored line, 1" per round. McMaster-Carr

For the vinyl caps: McMaster-Carr

Also used some Goodyear wiper blade packaging to hold the preloaded tubes for easy storage and transport.

Why use the metal spacers? Wouldn't a 2" long nylon spacer or 1/2' OD tubing cut to 2" work just as good?

It's what the hardware store had in stock and the parts fit together well. I was too lazy to keep looking for more parts.

all i can say is that you are hard core!

Now as to not take anything away from skunkworks... Is this a possibility for you to produce and sell as another version of your product?

not at this time, we are in development of several other adapters to fit other magazines and are utilizing company resources for mfg/Dev, packaging, and advertising campains..

In my opinion Skunk's loader is still the best accessory for the 15-22, and this just makes it better.

I love simple engineering solutions that work and are reliable, great job!

Glad to hear that. Would definitely like to see more mag adapters available.

I've been eye one for about two weeks, just having a hard time wrapping my head around $50 for it. Heck I bought two Uplula's for less than that...

The brass end pieces - those are sacrificed from the Skunkworks tube, or did you source them elsewhere?

EDIT - very nice writeup on imagur. I had wondered why Skunkworks only did the 12 round tube - never even considered a 25 round tube could trigger a round off - would that even be possible?

bare with me ,,the cost is reflecting recouping original capital investment and lower end mailing quantities,, the cost will come down as larger retailers come on board and we mfg larger quantities.

Time for the Shark Tank.

ooh booyy those guys are brutal,, no thanks !

how about a special s&w forum deal.. if you order a loader and would like to do telero's mod ,put "plus mod kit" in the order comment box,, and i will include the new two piece tube and two ends so you can make telero's mod. so you dont have to destroy the original tube. if you want the complete mod kit you'll have to talk to telero. if you already purchased a loader and would like to try doing teleros mod, private message me and i will send you the pre cut tube ends.

Yep, I cut the ends of the original tube I got with the loader. I actually bought a couple of loaders originally just so I could try this out.

As far as dropping one round on top of another, even at a distance of two feet, you won't set another round off. If loading from the tray you'll be at an angle anyway, so it's not like you're dropping a round directly on top of the next one, the angle and friction of riding the tube down slows the round down quite a bit. Even dropping one in the tube and another straight down on top wouldn't be enough to set one off, even if the round nose did happen to hit the rim. But from a manufacturer standpoint of wanting to limit liability as much as possible, I suppose it's something to take into consideration.

Question though, it seems as though you're attaching the plastic loading tube directly into the cut nylon piece. So why the need to use the metal attachment piece? You're attaching the end of the loader/Mag feeder tube to one end of the nylon piece, and the clear plastic tube to the other end of the nylon tube. I don't see the need for the metal connector.

Second question, are the tubes a hard plastic or are they slightly soft? I ask because i'd like to know if the 25 round tubes bend at all when loading and if it causes any issues?

Seems like a great mod and will probably do this if and when I get the loader once the price comes down. I also think this should be added as an option to the original design.
