Mcgivern Outdoorsman confirmation!

The factory letter came with the HD when I bought it. I did submit for the McGivern OD. How does one go about getting a corrected letter? Am I paying another $100 each?

No one was implying that it increased the value of a gun. Just stating the fact that S&W sold and shipped guns to many hardware stores back in the day. I'm old enough to remember a time when many, if not most small town hardware stores sold guns.

I was raised in the 50's till I joined the Navy on a cattle ranch in South Park Colorado. We went into the town of Fairplay for "shopping". The drug store in Fairplay sold guns just to the left of the soda fountain. 😁 don't know how or where he got them for sale.
Just a side note to say back in the day all small towns had a gun store some in unusual places. 😎

True...Up until a few years ago we had a shoe repair shop here in Conroe with an FFL...Not much inventory, but it sure smelled good in there......Ben
And once upon a time, you could have a Class 1 FFL, and could legally sell guns from your home, as long as you had a room with an exterior entrance and the room was inaccessible from inside your living quarters. Most small towns had one or two of those.

I had one of those too until I had so many guns I decided to build my own gun store...Then I sold it and retired (again) so now I'm back to guns trying to overtake my living space...What's a poor guy to do?......Ben

Are we to understand the that the eight .38/44s listed in the shipment register clip in the top post are all McGivern ODs?

Interesting that 44388 is a shipment to McGivern, which invites us to think it has a five-inch barrel. I already have 44389 recorded in my McGivern OD roster with a note that it too was shipped to McGivern. I am now wondering if the higher number was a typo in the source material. (But perhaps not, as McGivern was known to receive multi-gun shipments from S&W.)

The Wm. Hoegee Company was a major S&W receiver and distributor in Los Angeles in the first half of the 20th century. I have a few revolvers that passed through their hands.

David, I think there might be confusion is between a "McGivern Model" and McGivern shipped guns. Ed owned many guns over his shooting career. I have nowhere near all the guns he owned in my database, but have 11 Registered Magnums and 4 Outdoorsman that shipped to Ed. One of video of him shows him at a shooting exhibition unloading a trunk of guns onto a blanket and assume he shot them all that day. (1;45 minutes into the video) below. Ed also held several multiple gun records, shooting several guns for time.
