Default Remington GB manufacture date identification

Does anybody know where a guy could go to check to see the manufactured date of Remington GB 22 ? I have a stock of older 550 round boxes mixed with what I think is newer stuff and want to use the older first. I searched on google but found nothing. Even a chronological pictorial of the 550 boxes would help.

Thanks, Rick

It's not worth the bother. Ammo doesn't "age" or have an expiration or "best used by" date.

I have ammo (both factory and handloaded) from the 70s that shoots no differently from the stuff I bought or loaded last year.

I know but it's the ocd coming out. Plus now that I've looked it's kinda like I'm on a mission to find out if there is a record of date codes.

Most ammo boxes everyone makes has a stamp code on them which is the lot number. Lower number, older ammo.

The "new and improved" GB are much better than the old stuff, so much so that I will walk by a great deal on old stuff because its not worth the aggravation.

They say its less dirty but that is relative. Still dirtier than just about anything else. My rifles liked it mostly OK but I found I would start having an issue or two after about 2-4 25 rd mags full. More issues with the pistols.

Hey I wanted to point out something very relevant to this:

When I started my firearms collection in Jan 2010, I also of course started buying and collecting ammo to go with all my new firearms ( I am and have always been into Survival and Preparedness so this is something I consider to be part of my S&P preparedness portfolio etc.)- I didn't exactly choose a brand of .22LR ammo, I bought everything and anything to try among my 3 new .22LR rifles - Remington 597, Savage Mark II, and S&W M&P 15-22. The Remington Golden Bullets basically would not at all in the least function in the 597, and gave ping-poor results in the other two. Someone suggested heartily, "Oh buy the Thunderbolts!!! They're PREMIUM Remington rimfire ammo!" All they did was suck just as bad but cost more. I never used another Remington (or Winchester for that matter, had some problems with them too) rimfire ammo until last week.

I had about 6 bricks of Remington Golden Bullet 250rd packs my father and sister bought at a trip to Rural King Supply last year (they saw them for sale, for a decently cheap price, and were allowed 3 each, so they just bought them knowing it was something in high demand and short supply, with no regard for brand or type etc.) and also 6 500rd. Remington Thunderbolt bricks they similarly acquired.

Now the Thunderbolts look the same as before, but the Golden Bullets say right on the box NEW AND IMPROVED etc. etc. and let me tell you, I was *AMAZED* - 125 rounds one day, the other 125 rounds the following day. NOT ONE FAILURE AT ALL, not a dud, not a FTF/FTE, etc. in neither my Savage Mark II bolt-action or Remington 597 autoloader (I will not put anything but quality in the 15-22 lol. A man got to have a code!) I could not believe the accuracy and not-too-bad cleanliness either! It was amazing, I would be VERY interested in cheap GBs now if I see them!

The Thunderbolts were pretty similar! In fact, I have a supposition - according to Nikon Spot-On ballistics suite, both the Remington Golden Bullet and Thunderbolt share the exact same FPS and BC, exact same data. And both have refreshed packaging and Remington did advertise their revamping rimfire lines a few years back and re-commitment to quality (in the post-12/12 .22LR pandemonium) ... I wonder if they are basically the exact same thing, except with a different bullet. (Thunderbolts are 40 GR lead RN and Golden Bullets are 36 GR Plated lead HPs) ... which would explain the same ballistics data AND the fact they're both absolutely improved from their earlier iterations.

ANYWAY, as I have decent stashes of both of these bought in the past 2+ years since 12/12 (you buy whatever you can whenever you can if the price is somewhat reasonable, at least we do!) I was very happy to know these shoot and shoot accurately, reliably, and fairly cleanly, as I had considered them to be absolute SHTF/TEOTWAWKI ammo and more likely, barter-bait.

hope this info helps!
