Hammer spring replacement - JP?

If i remember correctly from other threads on this subject....The JP yellow spring mod should only be done on the trigger spring, the hammer spring causes FTF and light strikes.

While I'm fairly (ok make that really) new here, everything I've read in researching my newly aquired 15-22 is what GhostMutt just said. Now I'm sure that some have had success with the hammer spring as well, but the safe route is just the trigger spring.

Not in most cases. I used the yellows with the RRA trigger in my PC model for a couple of years with no issues until replacing it with a Geissele Super 3-Gun trigger. I even tried the yellows on that and they worked fine but the trigger was too light (1.25# on my trigger gauge). I don't, however, use standard velocity or match ammo in my 15-22 (a waste of good ammo) when CCI AR-Tactical or MiniMags cycle better.

I have two 15-22's with the JP yellow springs and have had mixed results. The trigger pull is 4lbs on one and 3.75lbs on the other. I do have a reliability problem with the one that has the heavier trigger and always seems to happen with the first round of a magazine, where l get a light hit, the rest of the mag fires just fine. I don't have any problems on the other 15-22. So I have a spare hammer and I'm going to remove the spur and see if lightening the trigger helps. That's all I got.

In case you do get light strikes with that setup you can buy the JP spring set that has the yellow lower power trigger spring and the red extra power hammer spring. As long as you are using a single stage AR trigger that will work. From my experience the yellow/red combo does not work on a 2 stage trigger. All you are really doing by cutting the spur off is creating the JP Speedhammer which is part of the single stage JP 3-gun trigger setup.

After doing some more thinking on the subject of the JP hammer spring, if anyone one has one that they didn't use as part of a spring upgrade and would be willing to part with please pm me. I'm debating a new project for the 15-22 that I want to try with it.
