Hi all,

New to forum and guns. A few months ago I went out and got an M&P 15-22 and now I wanted to have it matching my AR15 so I went and got the (Free Float Hand Guard Kit (4 Piece) for Smith & Wesson M&P15-22) and (12" Ultra Lightweight KEY MOD Free Float Hand Guard with Picatinny Top Rail).

But there is .25" gap between the handguard and upper, the screw holes line up with the handguard and the barrel nut but It just does not look right when you look at it.

Do I need a different adapter or handguard ?

From what I understand, you need the modified converter... not the standard. Then you have to remove some plastic from the tabs.

From the Tacticool22 site:
This converter requires permanant modification of your upper. The bottom hand guard alignment tab needs to be removed and the top hand guard alignment tab needs to be almost completely removed.

The back of the free float hand guard or delta ring barrel nut will almost touch the bottom portion and be .1 or 2.5mm away from the top part.

The gap doesn't bother me. I didn't mess with the tabs but did use the modified adapter. My gap seems smaller than yours.

The gap on your handguards are so small you can hardly see it. Anyone know of a KeyMod rail system 10"-12" in size that would fit better then the one in my picture?

and Mlok handguard as well as my brother has the same problem and he used Mlok.

This is what I used and what I pictured showing how to install.
Rainier Arms Evolution Free Float System - 12.0 Keymod

Then you can get the Samson version.
Samson Keymod Evolution Series 10 KM-Evolution-10- Primary Arms

The Evolution mounting system allows you to slide the handguard up to the receiver.

Did you get the standard or modified converter?

I got the standard converter, I'll order the modified one and get the Evolution 12".

Thanks for the info.

You will still have a gap.
Unless you cut a notch in the bottom part of the rail to fit around the pivot pin boss. Even then I'm not sure it would be flush.
Look at the side profile of the upper. The front of the mag well is in front of the picatinny rail.

I'm very happy with my ultralight weight key mod rail from tacticool. Great package for the money compared to anything else.
