Questions on the Picatinny rail on my M&P 15-22
I just recently purchased this rifle and believe I have the upgraded sport version. It came with the MBUS front an rear sights, and has the M-LOK handguard (the slots) with 1 barrel length Picatinny rail on the top.
I have been looking at getting some accessories, like a flashlight, red dot laser, front vertical grip, but am confused when I look at the accessories. Some descriptions say they are for a 20mm rail, while others say 30mm while others just say Picatinny. So, how do you know which will fit. This is very confusing to newbies!
Thank!
KH

For the Picatinny rail any 20mm will attach. Weaver devices will fit on Picatinny rails, but Picatinny devices will not always fit on Weaver rails.
Having Picatinny rails means you can attach both Picatinny and weaver attachments.
For the MLOK you need to get MLOK attachments or get MLOK Picatinny rails.

So what is the purpose of this rifle with lights and lasers? What is the intended role? Is this for fun, or do you have some other purpose for this rifle?

You either need to purchase a grip that is made to attach via M LOK, or you can attach a piece of rail and then attach a grip... obviously, the M LOK direct attachment is much cleaner.

I don't have an M-LOK 15-22 (have the standard rail system), but I do have a Rem 700 with a Magpul stock that uses the M-LOK system.
Sorry for the non-15-22 pics, but I figured some pics of the M-LOK system and mounts might help make the system easier to understand.
Here is a sideview of a Harris bipod mounted using an M-LOK bipod mount that fits nice and flush with the stock.
M-LOK bipod mount.
Magpul sells a M-LOK vertical grip that mounts absent any other hardware just like this M-LOK QD sling point.
