Hi All, I have been away for way too long (although I always read the weekly update), but getting excited for this shooting season (when in cools down here in AZ). I have a Banish 223 suppressor on order to use on my S&W AR-15 Sport. Plan to also use it on my 15-22 and thought it was threaded - it's not. Can get the barrel threaded, but wondered if anybody had ever used one of these adapters that attach to the end of the barrel?

Although Tacticool produces good products, I wouldn’t trust a slip-on adapter with a supressor. It doesn’t take much misalignment to cause a baffle strike. Plus the set screws will leave permanent scars. If a Smith has the proper Tacticool wrench to remove the barrel, it’s no big deal to thread the muzzle, then you are done. Don’t know about AZ, but it is a $50 to $75 job around here.

A suppressor develops significant pressure within itself. I personally wouldn't trust set screws after having a set screw secured (?) muzzle brake get pulled off the barrel by the lowly .22 rf. No bullet strike, just internal pressure.

There are bore piloted treading die setups that can be used without having to pull the barrel.

I agree with the above. Will indeed have my 15-22 barrel threaded. The company that my suppressor is coming from (won't advertise for them, but you can see the newest American Rifleman) says if I just send the upper, they will take care of it for $100. I don't know any decent gunsmiths here in town, so I am fine with the price. Not that I will need one, but what do you think about the screw on adapters that you can put on a 5/8x24 threads to use a 1/2x28 suppressor. Granted the chances a gun chambered in some 22 caliber round or smaller would have the 5/8x24 are really slim.
