CCI Tactical 22lr Ammo
Quote from CCI Website:
CCI AR Tactical 22 Long Rifle Ammo 40 Grain Copper Plated Lead Round Nose Ammo review offers the following information; CCI Ammunition is known for among hunters and target shooters alike for delivering an explosive and accurate performance over and over again with incredibly reliable ammunition! For over 50 years shooters have counted on CCI for all of their ammunition needs, and CCI has always delivered. This 22 LR ammunition is a tactical Rim fire, designed specifically for use in AR-style firearms and was explicitly tested for the Smith & Wesson M&P 15/22. This guarantees flawless function and precision in AR-style rifles. With clean-burning propellant, the components of this ammo support keeping semi-automatic actions clean for longer shooting sessions. An amazing pick, this ammunition is a perfect pick for plinking or competition training. Like much of CCI's AR Tactical ammunition, this 22 LR features a 40 Grain Copper plated round nose bullet that offers exceptional accuracy.
Has anyone shot this in their 15-22?

Yes, it works fine. It's a little slower than Mini mags solids but cycles fine.
I'm finding Mini mags at the moment a little less expensive then AR tactical so I using that currently.

Recently I bought a box.
Haven’t shot any, will shot it in various non AR guns.
Why did I buy it?
It was almost the only CCI that Cabelas had in stock.
And the closest one to MiniMags.

I really thought it was reboxed MiniMags.
To answer the question, I have not used any in the past few years. I shot it in my 15-22 when it was new. Since the break-in period, I have used CCI SV.

Online reviews say it is a penny or two more expensive than CCI Mini Mags. Bought 600 rounds (Two boxes yesterday).

It should work fine. I'm guessing each round has a little "Punisher" skull logo engraved on the bullet tip.

I thought I had seen everything "Tactical" after buying some Tactical Chop Sticks ... I swear , Kabar Tactical Chopsticks , get real !
Then my wife buys me a "Tactical" Walking Cane , can a Cane be tactical ...
I was at a loss for words ... Yes , it's a beast and will get you put in jail in most places just on dangerous looks alone . (M-48 sold by Cold Steel )
But Tactical 22 LR ... Come on Man , that's a bit much ...what can you do to make 22 LR ammo "Tactical" ... FMJ , Tracer , Armor Piercing ???
I gues if you can have Tactical Chopsticks you can have Tactical 22 LR Ammo ...sell it in a metal G.I. Ammo Can and don't look back !

I bought a couple of bricks back in 2017, simply because they were on the shelf and WalMart had no other inventory at that time.
They worked fine in any of my .22's, including my 15-22.
Their specs say its 1200 fps. Mini Mags are 1280.

I’ve got a couple 300pks of CC1 Tactical, but don’t have any Tactical 22s.
Found it good accurate ammo in several untactical rifles. A buddy of mine picked it up on sale at big outdoor store in Columbus. I think it was $17.

Well, Aguila has "Sniper" .22 ammo. It was just a matter of time before some company came out with "Tactical"!

Yes, this was marketing related to the History Channel show with the family that hunted gators (the show’s name is obviously escaping me at the moment). “Choot ‘em” was the other famous quote. Guess how the guys pronounced “Stingers”.

Went to my indoor range today. Shot 75 rounds of this ammo in my S&W 15-22. Started at 50 yds. First 9 rounds, 4 within 1 inch group dead center. Other 5 were flyers. Shot 20 more rounds..Some again dead center but 4 inch flyers again! Brought the target back to 25 yds and fired 20 more rounds. 6 rounds dead center . The remainder flyers. Compared to CCI Mini Mag and CCI Standard Velocity, this ammo today was inconsistent. I'll shoot the remainder of it. Will I buy it again...NO!

"Tactical" in reference to .22 ammo probably means nothing aside from "tactical" marketing. The word itself has great meaning for many these days even if it offers nothing in the way of performance.
For anyone serious about .22 ammo, "tactical" might be worth trying but try at least a half-dozen other ammos (always including CCI SV). They're not expensive. The one that functions reliably, always fires, and is most accurate when tested for 50 yard group size from a good benchrest is easily the best ammo, "tactical" labeling or not.

Back when .22 RF was a "problem" I bought all I could get anywhere I could get it. Mini Mags were my goto standard for many many years. Not to be found then, or at unreasonable prices.
During the problem years I had misfires and even found empty primed cases in a bulk box. Not just one particular brand, but several. I must say that Federal gave me the least problems.
In the last couple years WalMart has had a steady inventory of 325 Bricks of Federal Target Grade ammo. I bought a brick and was Soooo happy with the results I went back and bought more.
The last time I needed some, I went to each of the 5 Wallys in my area and bought the limit at each store. THEN, I went back a day later and did it again. I found them to be that good.
It was a lot of weight to have to carry in the basement to my ammo safe, but it was worth it.
In other words, I highly recommend that flavor.

There is a difference in bullet profile to make feeding in AR style rifle rifles better.
See the difference at about the 1:20 mark in this video:
and about 2:40 in this video:
I use them interchangeably in my 15-22 as both work fine for me. I think the Tactical version might make more of a difference in an AR with a .22lr conversion upper? The 15-22 was designed for .22lr. Mine works with just about any HV .22lr round nose ammo.

I have found the tactical .22 cheaper at times than the mini-mags. I buy whichever I can get for the better price. As I pointed out they are a bit different and one bullet profile may work better in some guns.

A good reason to try a variety of ammos.

I went through 600 rounds of CCI AR Tactical in my 15-22 shooting Steel Challenge matches. I got it on recommendation that it would feed better in this style of rifle.
Performance wise it was great.
However, I was getting more misfires (good firing pin indent on the case) than I was comfortable with in competition shooting.
Went to CCI MiniMags and have had fewer problems.
Maybe I had a bad batch? Maybe just random distribution I got some bad rounds? But since the MiniMags have been fine, I'm staying with them.
Usually, feed problems with the 15-22 are the awful polymer lipped magazines.

I am not a fan of copper washed .22 LR ammo. I am a fan of standard velocity .22 LR ammo. It does everything I need including formal/ informal target shooting and small game hunting.

Satandard velocity 22LR
I agree. Now that all of my 22 lr shooting is at an indoor range, CCI and Eley standard velocity meet all of my needs. I no longer shoot CCI Mini Mag or high velocity 22 lr ammo at the range.
