How small is it. If I was looking for a compact .45 for concealed carry, would this be a good choice. I have never been at a gun store that even had an M&P 45 for me to look at so I am just looking for a general size comparison with something common. I have a 4516 and a CS45 if that helps for size.

I am debating on sending the 4516 and CS45 back to Smith for conversion to DAO. Just curious if I would be better off just getting the M&P compact 45 and be happy.

For a double stack 45 it's very compact. But still a bit bigger than it's sister compacts in 9MM and 40SW. That's why I went back to a M&P 40C which is easier to conceal under a light shirt.

All depends on how you carry it and how you dress. Many people don't think of those things before they buy.

It's about an inch shorter than the full-size M&P. I carry in the small of my back, it can get heavy at times. Great gun though, 8 rnd. mag. with one in the chamber. Good for winter carry but I'm looking at something more compact for the summer. Would love to find the .45 nightguard at a decent price.

I was hoping to avoid using the G word, but work has me carrying Glock products, so I have the .40 triple threat, 22 for work, 23 for my off time and 27 for the backup role.

I prefer the .45, is the M&P 45 compact around 23 size?

It's a little smaller but not to much

The 45C works for me in an IWB. It's not "tiny" but I don't find it much more inconvenient than any other of my carry guns. I can even wear it sitting in the car.

The compared dimensions are as follows:

Height Weight Length Width Barrel

S&W 45c 4.8" 26.2 oz 7.125" 1.2" 4"

Glock 23 5" 21.16oz 6.85" 1.18" 4.02"

Weight shown is for pistol without mag.

I don't have a Glock 23, but I do have a 19 and a M&P45c, and I find the 45c to have a more comfortable grip. I have smaller hands.

Took my 9C to the store to compare, not a lot of differance, so little of differance all round that i'll have to buy one. I think you would be happy too..

Held, weighed, side-by-side, stacked on top, holstered on my belt slide. I tell you I saw and felt litte differance, I loved it. Not enought for me not to purchase, still working the wife for the purchase part. Birthday!

Roughly half an inch shorter, overall, than a 4513TSW and a couple of ounces lighter ... and you get an extra round of capacity and a quarter of an inch more barrel length.

Find a Glock 19 or 23 to put in your hand. The 45c is virtually the same length and height. It is however, 1/8 " wider.

I carry mine in a Concealed Carry Concepts "clingon" high ride kydex holster. It comfortable all day. I have a Concealed Carry IWB, but lately there is too much of me IWB to accomodate me, a gun, and holster. I will start a diet 'in a day or two'.

I can't wait to get a M&P45c. Now I have to wait, because they are not "approved" in MA.

I'm not even sure S&W has submitted the 45c for testing. Do you know that they have? I wonder as there are several models, barrel lengths and color options that haven't made it on teh "list" either.
I've got the 45 FS and 9 Compact M&Ps and like both enough I might "need " a 45 C myself should they ever become available :-)

I have 4 M&Ps and the compact 45 is my favorite of the bunch. It came from the factory with Trijicon nights sights and I sent it to Robar for their NP3 finish. I just love the feel of this pistol, it fits my hand perfectly and is easy to conceal.
