I'd like to know of some good self-defense rounds that is guaranteed to work on my M&Pc. Please let me know if you guys have any first-hand success with any particular brands.

My local firing range doesn't allow HP rounds to be shot, so I don't have the ability try them out.

Winchester Ranger +P is what I use in all my handguns. Plenty of other good 9mm SD rounds out there. Corbon, Federal Premium, etc.

100 people will give 100 different answers on this one... I run Gold Dot exclusively in all of my guns with no issues what so ever. I particularly like that Gold Dot makes "short barrel" versions.

Good advice from the others. Today's modern ammo is good stuff. Any of the premium JHP will work well for you. Do your research, study and choose a round that you are confident in. Next step is to find some where to actually shoot some of this ammo. Each pistol is an individual and before trusting your life to a certain round and certain pistol, you have to test fire. That will show how the round functions and its accuracy. The ballistic testing at LE - Home is good to look at. My preference in any caliber is the Federal HST. Bill

I use speer gold dot in all my weapons. In my opinion the 124 gr +p gold dot is the best 9mm round out there. In all the test I have seen it has been the most consistent and feeds great in my guns. My second choice would be federal hst.

Ranger is what I carry in my 9mm & 40. Also have some Remington Golden Sabre.

I use the 124gr+P Speer Gold Dots Short Barrel for my M&P9c and Kahr PM9. For the FS M&P9 I use the regular 124gr+P GD.

I also carry Win 147 T-Series from time to time. Althought I can get the GD cheaper in my local area from a friend.

There have been nice improvements in pistol ammunition the past few years. Several top tier have dropped to second tier.

See this article. While you're looking at the article note the size of the expanded bullets. There's a reason I primarily carry .45ACP!

In 9mm use this short list. Winchester 147gr RA9T works well in all my 9mm's. Recommend you start with 147gr as there are advantages based on momentum to using the heaviest bullet that will properly function. Note there's only one (1) on the list under 124gr.
9 mm:
Barnes XPB 105 & 115 gr JHP (copper bullet)
Federal Tactical 124 gr JHP (LE9T1)
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP (RA9124TP)
Winchester Partition Gold 124 gr JHP (RA91P)
Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ JHP (RA9TA)
Federal Tactical 135 gr +P JHP (LE9T5)
Federal HST 147 gr JHP (P9HST2)
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)
Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 147 gr JHP (RA9T)
Winchester 147 gr bonded JHP (RA9B/Q4364)
