They are out there but people want a premium on them.
Double Tap 357 SIG observations:
We were able to get to the indoor range this weekend - the weather was nasty on Friday,
and the forecast showed rain for the rest of the days.
Smith and Wesson M&P 357 SIG Compact:
Having owned an M&P9C for a short time last year.
I knew a bit how one shot and was hoping that the new 357 would shoot as well.
The 357C doesn't have as sweet as of trigger that the 9C did.
++15 yard line++ Using a player's card target with what I believe were 2 inch cards.
First up.
Double Tap 80 grain TAC-XP Barnes all copper hollow-point.
Recoil was mild but I did notice some muzzle flash and laoud report.
No different than any other 357 SIG that I'd shot before.
DT 115 gr. TAC-XP. Same bullet as loaded by Cor-Bon in the DPX line..
but nominally hotter in .357 SIG.
Muzzle flash and muzzle rise a bit more than the 80 grainer.
Double Tap 125 gr. Sierra JHP.
A stouter loud in the M&P with more flash and report.
I then was aching to try the 147 gr. FMJ load.
The gun shot the heavier load a bit better.
Accuracy:
Already knowing about the 357 Compact's less than stellar trigger.
I found myself shooting low with most of the loads, including the
147, with the 125s being low right but in a good group.
Nancy commented on the groups but also that they were all low.
Glock 33:
Fired some old CCI Blazer 125 grain with no problems.
Recoil was brisk, and the muzzle flash was an orane ball with a very load report.
Shot much like the Winchester 125 grain FMJ from Nancy's Glock 32 a month ago.
DT 80 gr. TAC-XP JHP.
Low recoil and muzzle flash, little muzzle rise in comparison to the 125s.
DT 115 TAC-XP, the .357 version of the Barnes X bullet as loaded by Cor-Bon
as the DPX in 9mm.
More flash and recoil but nothing to write home about.
Double Tap 125 gr. Sierra JHP.
Noticed some increased muzzle blast and flash, with a bit more recoil.
This is the magic 125 bullet weight that's such a knock out on the streets.
I can surely see why!
DT 147 GR, FMJ, a heavier load but also slow by 200 or so fps according to the
Double Tap website. (
Doubletapammo Shop)
I couldn't use my chrono on the range but felt that this
load shot very soft in comparison to the others through the G33.
Accuracy.
I was using a player's card target with what I believe were 2 inch cards.
The G33 was very accurate with all of the loads tested, with the DT
115 TAC-XP being the clear winner.
+20 Yard Line+++
Next up was Nancy, who started the Glock 32 up with the Winchester 125 gr.
FMJ (white box) load.
One mag full of the FMJ showed that she was dead on target with her gun on this
day. She dialed in a an Ace of Hearts-and printed some very tiny groups.
Recoil looked fierce, as did the muzzle flash-but nothing near a 10mm.
She shot some more 125s then I loaded up some Cor-Bon 125 and
the DT 125s. Both of these being the Sierra bullet@ around 1,450 fps.
I noticed that the muzzle flash balls became larger and the gun was louder as
she finished off the magazine of mixed FMJs and hot JHPs.
Low recoil and impressive accuracy from her hands.
Impressions:
The M&Ps trigger isn't the seemingly short, light and crisp M&P9C trigger.
I don't know if I was mashing the trigger or doing something worse.
De to my Fibromyalgia (
Fibromyalgia Community, Forum, Articles, and Information | Fibromyalgia.com) I can't fully extend my arms
into an isosceles position, so I shoot in a modified weaver.
This doesn't keep me from getting good hits with most guns like my RAMIs
and P-01 or any Glock, but I hate the fact I shot so low with the otherwise impressive
357C.
Whether I'm going to invest another $200 in Apex or other parts/labor into it
to maybe get an acceptable trigger is up in the air.
The Glock 33 with it's 5.5 pound stock trigger delivered beyond acceptable accuracy..
and I could probably have done better with some nicer sights like the Warren
Tactical nites.
Closing:
Some dismal shooting on my part with the M&P, but still fun to test out
a couple new guns.
I'm hoping we will be able to go up the Snake River and to shoot in the great outdoors.
I'll be taking pics if possible.
Thanks for listening to me.
